I have read a lot of negative comments about Pirelli tires here. And after a drive a couple days ago, I am thinking maybe there is some credence to the things I have read.
I have owned a lot of cars in my life, and most (especially in my younger days), were not performance cars by any means. In fact, the closest I can come to a performance car was my 96 Lincoln MarkVIII. But of all the cars I have owned, with just standard factory tires, I must say that these Pirellis on the Mustang really disappointed me the other day.
I was "showing off my car" to a couple of my buddies, and pushing it pretty hard in Sport mode, when I came up on a pretty slight curve. Nothing major, Just a small curve while still laying on the throttle.
Well, All three of us got a little freaked out at how the car seemed to be on the (brink) of losing traction. And I was not going so fast that this should have happened.
So, my question is, are these tires at fault? I live in Houston, so I am guessing that I have either all season tires, or summer tires. I really don't know which.
Is it really the Pirellis? Or is this car just Too light is the ass end?
I know damn well it should not have started slipping under these circumstances.
Just on a side note....I once bought High performance tires for the Mark VIII, and those damn tires only lasted me about One year. I later found out that High performance tires are Definatly not what you need for daily driving. I found out the hard way, and it cost me a shitload of cash.

im guessing you have the 235 or 255 pirelli all seasons. Perf pack gets 255/275 P Zero summers. Either way both are pretty eh tire wise.

I'd gladly take these over the shitty Goodyear Eagle RS-As that came on my G8 GT. Worst tire I have ever owned, and that's saying something because these Pirellis suck too lol.

Yeah, a lot of people are bashing Pirelli nowadays.
Pirelli is also the exclusive distributor for tires in Formula One. And the tires are just not durable. They are making a very bad image of themselves.
Here is a video of four time champion Sebastian Vettel bashing Pirelli because of his blown tyre at today's race.

They're not the best tires but they're nowhere near deserving of the terrible rep they get on this forum. There are more aggressive compounds out there; there are compounds that wear better; there are compounds that might feature more mechanical grip and better wear too. But they're not horrible by any measure. You can find better options on the market for similar money in the same category (A/S or summer).

I think some people just hate whatever comes stock just because it comes stock.

Once you learn how to drive your stang to the edge you'll see that the Pirelli's are a cheap tire.

I am leaning towards that thinking pal. These tires did not perform under these conditions as I thought they should. But....as I asked in my original post....Is this car Too light in the ass end? I think it may be.....

I drive my 5.0 pretty aggressively and have the stock 235's, they are more than fine for Chicagoland area daily driver, good grip when I take off and hold really well when getting on and off highway ramps. I have a manual and definitely will not throw them out, wider all seasons in a couple years when it's time. If I slide out sometimes around a turn when hitting it, it's fun, I let off the gas and they stick great while I slam it into 2nd or 3rd! I'm hoping they will be ok for winter, if not snow tires may be a must.

most stock tires are trash. P Zero is rated #22 out of 29 on Tire Rack surveys. I also like the fact that they cost MORE than the top performers in that category
