Phone call from Dave Pericak

Hi everyone! Long time reader but first post.

Today I received a call from a Michigan area code. I answered and the man said he was Dave Pericak and wanted to talk about a survey I had completed. I left some comments regarding the clutch feel being numb a few months ago from an email. I recognized his name and voice from some videos with Jay Leno. I called him back later to bring up something additional and it was a direct line to him.

I'm just an average ordinary guy and my insight was nothing groundbreaking. Even though I thought it was really cool to speak with him and ask him questions about the car, I'm curious as to the goal of his call. Do you think it was a public relations idea? Anyone else get a call like this or heard about someone else?

He didn't say his job title, he only said he's Dave Pericak calling from Ford. For those of you who don't know, he was the Chief Engineer for Mustang from 2008 until very recently this year when he was promoted to Global Director of Performance for Ford. I would guess there are few people above him at Ford with a last name of Ford.

Interesting. This is your first post and you just joined. I see you posted a long time reader.

Cool phone call. Crazy that someone in his position would talk with John Q. Public.

Maybe he read many complaints about the clutch feel and actually cares to know why. For me, I have probably 1.5 million miles driving different standard shift vehicles from fast cars to slow cars, light and heavy trucks and it seems I just have to get used to every one.

Just know that if it was really good, they would be touting that number as a selling point. That says a lot...

The car is very aerodynamic...except for the gigantic fake grill.

A very small portion of the grill is actually open and functional. The rest is just an air trap. Not a good thing.

I imagine that will be rectified in the first refresh. They had to tie the 50th anniversary in to the 60's.

I used to work at a place where everyone had to make x number of calls to see how customer feedback was, regardless of your title/status. So it's possible it could have been the actual man himself you were speaking to. Who knows.

I did ask him why there was a delay in engine braking after you lift off the throttle. He said "that's your government intervening" and explained it was them restricting emissions from the fuel that was already on its way.

He seemed like a genuine guy and I didn't want to take up his time even though I could have spoken for days. I explained how I removed the clutch spring and he said that was installed to reduce peak effort on using the clutch.

For those wondering if they missed a call from him, his number started with 734-266-xxxx.

I'm certain it was him I recognized his voice from some Jay Leno's Garage videos I've seen him in. I found it curious he didn't say his job title though.
