Pardon the question but do owners make (or have made) their plates using characters assigned to the car? I'm only familiar with the govt issuing the plates and where spacing is out of the owners control.
In the UK when you buy a new car it is automatically assigned a registration plate, or it is possible to buy plates from our Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA).

We can only have certain formats of letters/numbers and there are some pretty strict guidelines regarding spacing of letters/numbers and the font of the letters etc which the plate owner needs to comply with, although lots of people bend the rules on this to try and make words.

Its usually the garage registering the car who fit the initial plates, but people often subsequently get "show plates" with illegal spacing made up by companies on the internet and then swap these onto the car for every day use.

If the police spot these on your car then quite often they will sometimes pull you over and you can get a fine.

Interesting. I like that system. Wish we had that in the US. Then again if your plates are national, we can have 50 identical character combinations, one in each state and maybe even more if a state allows the same characters on different types of plates. Most states issue plates with colors and graphics for universities, sports teams, causes, etc..

I'm going to check but I suspect each state here has laws requiring the display of the plates issued by the govt. They even use watermarks and such to make counterfeits harder to make and easier to identify.

That's never happening, the second I showed my Brothers and their girlfriends and got a reaction that was 'Are you a Homo?' 'Why do you want to be Fisted' etc... Swiftly wiped it out of the running.
I used to have a Smart car with the mis-spaced plate T1NY P... as the car was small. Well, tiny actually. As I got out one day a girl looked at the plate and commented to her boyfriend: 'Tiny P... I bet he's got a really small penis'. I decided to sell the plate on eBay... and a guy with a Porsche bought it.
Figures...

I have a dateless plate on the 67 Camaro at the moment KUI 67 which i will more than likely put up for sale soon if i opt for the S550.. Worth in the region of £1600 at a guess

Always worth thinking if u come to sell too. So this could be KU 167, KOI 67 with a strategically placed fastener Lol.!

Found a nice plate for the Stang i am very tempted to buy asap...before it goes up!
and then i will HAVE to buy the Mustang..Lol.!

I have found a site like this easier to use for searching...and then double check with the DVLA site, as it will more than likely be on there
and cheaper..!!

Be careful with national numbers, they had a plate (SNM 805S) that i really liked the look of turns out they wanted £400 off me as a non-refundable deposit and they 'may' be able to get the plate to go up for auction because it wasn't scheduled for auction, but if i paid the deposit, they would 'try to' get it on auction - seemed very sketch and the people on the phones were VERY pushy, which I didn't take too kindly too.

DVLA site may come up as more as it includes the tax/vat and then registration fee's for the vehicle, other sites don't show this :)

I got initials + it's a 65 plate then the rest self explanatory - £399
My wife managed to get an 11 plate that spelled her name for £399, really lucky with that one.
