For me I say that if you press on the accelerator and the car doesn't immediately show a sign of speeding up you are lugging the engine. I was going 65 in 6th and when I pressed on the pedal it got to 80 in around 4 seconds. It was effortless.
I'm with you man. Just did a quick little trip of 250 highway miles yesterday. Stayed in 6th the entire time other than on-ramps, etc. I don't know why people think 6th is too slow. Maybe if you have the 3.15 or 3.31 gears. I have the 3.55s and it's effortless to go from 65 to 80 like you say. Those with the PP and 3.73s it should be even easier. It's far from lugging.

I think people that have issues are the one with 3.31 rear end.
3.55 and 3.71 should be a lot better.

Yeah, with my 3.55, typical highway speeds of 65-85mph are no problem for 6th. I occasionally do like 50mph or so in 6th (limp mode ) on straights with cruise control...just cruising, don't try to accelerate thou.

...and I knew you'd be hear bragging about how you never learned to drive a stick properly.
Properly driving a stick means you won't always have max acceleration available just by dipping your right toes a little closer to the floor. By definition, else it'd be called an automatic.

6th in an S550 is nearly identical to 5th in my S197, and even a 4.6L is enough motor to keep it in the highest gear out on the highway. Steep hills excepted.

Passing in 6th gear is easy breezy with 3.73 gears.
I don't down shift to pass anymore. I'm into "go to jail" speed whenever I do.

No issue here passing in 6th over 70 mph. Most of my interstate driving is at ~75 mph and never have a problem. If traffic slows much below 70, I downshift to 5th or 4th to pass.

It is an overdrive gear, guys, a steep one at that. I have 3.31 gears and find 6th to be appropriate for a highway gear.

I agree with the OP. In 6th gear at highways speeds it easily accelerates. I have the 3:55 rear axle.

Im retarded I thought this was the GT350 forum :-d
What? you mean the GT350 can't accelerate on highway speeds on 6th?

Final ratio shouldn't be that much lower.

If I'm passing in 6th, I'm already running north or 80 mph. That gear is strictly for setting the cruise control and doing my highway run. If I'm passing on the highway, I'm dropping to 5th or even 4th.

I live in Utah. Unfortunately we have to pass on the right most days. Pretty easy in 6th.
QFT. I can't stand how oblivious/uncaring the drivers are out here... It's an everyday struggle not to be an asshole. Love so much about Utah - HATE the drivers.

The GT350 has essentially the same 6th gear final drive as a GT PP (0.63 and 3.73 vs 0.65 and 3.73). It has no more difficulty than the GT with highway passing.

I'm not seeing the issue here. Whether you have a turbo 4, a v6 or a v8 and youre in 6th gear... if youre having trouble passing just shift down. You bought a performance car, enjoy it. In the motorcycle world we have a phrase "Drop a gear and disappear"
