Parts availability in the future?

With a limited production vehicle like the GT500, do any of you ever worry about the lack of parts in say 5-10 years down the road when the car is no longer in production or even worse when V8s may not even be produced?

Furthermore the 500 share many, many parts with regular Mustangs
As the owner of a limited production American car, Viper Gts, my experience is that unique trim and body parts are the first ones to get rare

Your concern is valid. The good thing is Ford has made a zillion Mustangs, aftermarket is strong, and I'm sure Ford dipped into the parts bin for some common items. Those that are GT500 specific may get hard to find a few years after production ends. Ford will produce parts as long as they can make $$. Factory parts for a F150 or Explorer will be in higher demand than a GT500, where do you think Ford will concentrate its parts business?

I've owned 2 relatively low production run cars and parts were a pain sometimes. I had a Miata (NC) and a Chevy Cruze with the 2.0 turbo diesel. They made a gazillion Cruze's but not too many diesels. Stuff that was specific to the diesel drivetrain had to be ordered, or a lot of the high failure items (emission control parts) were pretty tightly controlled by GM. On top of that, only a few techs at the dealer were familiar with the 2.0 diesel so getting it worked on was sometimes a PIA.

The Miata was a relatively low production run and parts could also be challenging. Mazda was good with support for it, but needed to go through the dealer for some stuff and always had to be ordered. Just a side note, on the Miata to change a headlight bulb, either the entire front bumper cover had to come off or you had to jack the car up, take the front wheel off, remove the fender liner and then contort your hand in behind the head light.

After those cars, I made the decision to go with higher production run cars and ended up with a Toyota. My DD is an Avalon. When I bought the Avalon, it was when the current body style of Camry's came out and the dealers were not dealing on the "new" Camry. At the time, Oct 2017, I was able to get my Avalon cheaper than a Camry. The Avalon shares a ton of parts with the Camry/Highlander platform so parts are available and relatively cheap.

Yes and no. Already we're observing problems like with the oil filter for the GT500 (and now revised same spec for the GT350).

If you insist on running the FL2087 instead of the FL2062A, or an aftermarket compatible, it's a problem.

So the answer is, can you get replacement components? In most cases yes. Can you get Ford/Motorcraft/OEM part number replacements and repair parts....yes, but in at least some cases, getting them takes much longer.

I have a ton of fl2087’s bcuz my 350 is a track car. Change the oil a lot

I just ordered 4, they're still not to the dealer. Lots of guys hunting all corners of the internet for them.

I suspect if it gets bad enough people will use the 2062A.

Point being, there's filters out there and available that fit the cartridge and probably perform just fine, but if you want the Ford real mccoy, there's supply issues/difficulties.

How about the availability of the carbon fiber hood vent for the GT500. How long is the wait ? backordered till when.....??
