Painted vs. Vinyl Stripes

Anyone opt for custom painted racing stripes over vinyl? Main benefit I see is that it would last longer in the Florida heat.

You could replace them every year for the life of your car and still have money left over compared to painted though....

Some Mustangs look good with distinctive stripes others don't...after all what would a zebra be without it's stripes? An African mule! Or what would a skunk be without it's stripes? A stinky possum! An besides, it's very well known that "racing stripes" causes excessive speeding and attracts police attention. Stripes = Attention.

If you are a 'Walter Mitty' type, only us oldies know who he is, than you put stripes on your Mustang if you think you are driving a real race car.

As some one who had painted stripes on his S197, I won't ever be doing that again. It was a pain and anytime I got hit or had to have a repair the cost doubled to tripled. If I do stripes again, they will be vinyl.

I had vinyl done to my f150 quality vinyl too from 3m and after 2 years I wanted to take it off and have it redone. As I started to peel it off it was taking off the factory paint. So live and learn I will never do vinyl again just because of that. I also live in Florida and I had the stripes on my mustang painted on

Man really wanting to pull the trigger on full length gt350 style from bigworm. Just trying to decide on color. Thought they were fine with some spray wax. My car is garage kept but does get really hot here in tx

Now that's funny...and no I'm not a Walter Mitty clone. I was truly appalled the first time I went into my local Ford dealership and spotted what I thought was a GT 350 on the showroom floor, only to find out it was a base V-6 all "dolled up" to look like a GT350. :frusty:addle: I have mellowed a bit on stripes but I draw the line with anyone mis-badging their Mustangs.:tsk::rant:

The temperature isn't as bad as the sun, so if you keep your car in the garage during the worst part of the summer and use the spray wax you should get good life from the vinyl. Also depends on which color you go with, matte black will last about twice as long as metallic silver for example.
