I bought a new GT in Sept (was special ordered in May). I have kept it garaged for the past 3months, never driven in the rain, and only has 832miles on it. I noticed a chip in my paint inside the lip where the top of the passenger side rear fender meets the trunk lid(IMG_901). I know a rock or whatever hasn't hit it. I quickly when to the other side in the same spot and noticed a bubble in the paint(IMG_902). On a $500 Orange Fury option, I'll expect the Ford to take care of this. What do you guys think? Other than this, the car is freakin amazing and I love it. -- Thanks for anyone's insight, Albert

The second pic looks like paint delamination. The first pic appears to be foreign material under the paint, possibly some sort of sealer or adhesive. I would absolutely have the delamination problem fixed because that will only grow larger. The foreign material in paint? Gotta ask yourself how big of an eye sore it is to you. Never break factory paint if possible, secondary/tertiary paint jobs never are as good as the factory. I personally would not get that fixed, but that is just my opinion.

Fix the second mark but leave the first one alone. If you look hard in the seams of the plastic panels you'll probably find more like that.

The second mark is due to rubbing and Ford will fix that.

Thanks Guys. Appreciate your insight. I definitely won't break the paint if I don't have to. The issue in the first pic does not bother me- I was just wondering if that was the path to the second pic. Getting an app with Ford Service this week.

The first pic is a drip in the clear. No big deal and I would leave it alone.

If it were me, I’d have Ford fix both areas.

The clear coat drip can be wet sanded and polished out.

The other pic is clearly paint delamination, it’s all the way down to the primed level.

IMO this isn’t a “Ford only” issues - a lot of the new car paint issues are due to the fact that the new Govt Regulations has mandated such paint now has to be “water” based, which really thins out the paint or clear coat resulting in such issues as excessive drips, excessive orange peel or surface delaminations, etc.

Looks more like ecoat than primer, awfully dark to be a primer for such a light color. And to me that looks like sealer (or some sort of foreign material) under paint, not a clear coat drip. But its hard to tell from the photos.

OK. Went to two dealerships and discussed my options. They said Ford would have to approve the fix. Also, hanging with my gear head buddies, we saw the trunk lid was out of alignment and kissed the fender lip right were the paint chip was. So the trunk lid needed to be re-aligned. The Ford guy told me they'ed have send it to a bodyshop to paint the whole fender.
That sounded like a can of worms I didn't want to get into- plus it would obviously ruin my ceramic coating on the fender. Finally I said F-it and fixed it myself. I didn't want any clowns F-ing with my car. I realigned the trunk lid so it can't hit the fender lip anymore and fixed the paint chip myself. This photo was taken the same night I put the touchup paint on. The next morning when it was completely dried, the match was nearly perfect. I can deal with this minor eyesore.

Awesome, good to hear. It is not uncommon to see body fitment issues creating paint chips. Body fit/margins are probably my biggest pet peeve and, IMO, is one of the biggest design areas in which Ford lacks good quality control across their entire line up.

Yeah I have some silk mat concerns. Going to visit a local body shop and see what they say.
