Sorry man. I've had 7 new cars. Three of them were first year production.

My 2015 is the first one that I've noticed paint flaws. They are minor enough that I chose to live with them. Hope Ford does better soon.

Hood is aluminum.

In the doorjam I would not be all too worried. There is a high chance another could have a more obvious flaw where you could really see it on the outside. The door jamb can be touched up or sprayed anytime really. Saving $3,500 is a lot of money; even if hypothetically they refused to repair it spraying the jam would cost a few hundred bucks tops and you're still up more money then another deal.

Paint quality is generally fairly poor, as with build quality in general. If it bothers you that much don't take it but chances are you're going to find issues with others as well. Also the very thin paint chips unbelievably easy. I got my car opticoated at a significant expense when the car was brand new and now realize I'll need to get some sort of protective film on the front lest the car become horrible rutted.

It is true that all new cars have paint imperfections (I've sent every car I've bought straight to the detailer for a thorough fix-up). My other cars have been in the luxury segment so I'm not sure how the Ford compares to comparable brands. The poor paint is frustrating but I then have to remember that this car cost literally half of its German luxury equivalent. Also, the Tesla Model S is notorious for shitty paint (and general quality/reliability issues).

Surprisingly, the paint on my black GT is what I'd consider pretty good. Maybe I just got lucky. And black cars are notorious for showing any flaws. I did have to buff out some scratches the dealership put in it from not knowing how to wash it properly. I buffed the hell out of some and didn't burn through the clear-coat, so at least on my GT the clear-coat seems pretty thick.

Gotta Aggree with this reply

Are we talking the Door Jam, that you don't see unless you open the door and then study the area that's visible then. If so you gotta be kidding, seems like you got a super good deal, and I thought I got a good deal so I took a brand new 2015 with a fee blems, not biggie, its gonna get a lot more once you drive a few miles :-)

Chris

All of them have bubbles and other shit on the door jamb even the 2015. I have seen 5 different 15's and they all have the flaws. Live with it.

Dead on

You wanna see lousy paint, look at any new 2015 Subaru STI , it does not get much thinner, nor do they actually paint the entire car, really odd.

I also have a $48,000 BMW, kind nice over , paint not even close to perfect and once driven less than 1500 miles quite a few chips in hood area.

Chris

every single manufacturer uses these same robots... so when people bitch about paint thickness or paint issues... guess what? they all have the same thing. it's not just a ford thing, gm thing, nissan thing, or [insert manufacturer here] thing.

What I thought were water spots on the hood of my GT when I took delivery were actually drops of some sort of chemical under the clear coat. Dealer sent it out to their body shop and it came back flawlessly. Having them fix the paint doesn't necessarily mean it will come back terrible.

Every new mass produced car will have paint flaws. I've seen it in every car I've ever owned. I'd like to see how bad it actually is.
I buy a lot of cars and agree with this. The closest to perfect I've seen is my pet-to-the-vet car.A '14 Juke. I am very happy with the paint on my '15 GT though.
