OK, from the weird-but-true category ...
The weather really warmed up in Connecticut in the last week, so I figured it was time to fully wax my 2016 Mustang GT with PP in silver, getting ready for the summer. I bought the car last November and it has about 5K on it.
After washing the car, I was looking at the trunk lid and noticed something very odd ... hand/finger prints in the paint! Yes, I have the finger prints of a Ford factory worker permanently atop my trunk lid! They're not full palm prints, but the shape of long fingers in two areas that are about the perfect distance for someone who must have closed the lid before the paint and/or clear coat was fully dry. They're kind of hard to see at certain angles and in certain light, which is the reason I hadn't noticed them before. But when the angle is right, they are very clear. And, of course, they're the only thing I see now when I look at the trunk. I tried to capture the fingerprints in the photos, but it was a little tough. They look much worse in person.
The good news is that I took the car to the Ford dealer near me (not where I bought the car), and they immediately agreed with my assessment. They took their own photos and sent them to Ford service HQ. Within two hours, I already had word that Ford will fix the issue under warranty. I'm told the trunk will need to be re-painted.
This from Ford: "As the finish was contacted while wet, this is considered to be a defect with the paint process. Based on the contacted finish shown, the rear deck lid, base part 40110 is warrantable."
I'll give credit to Ford service for the quick response, but man, really? Finger prints in the paint? Should never, ever happen, of course. Slight misalignment of bumpers I can live with, but fingerprints in the paint? No way!
