So does anyone actually use these on a regular basis?? This is the only thing I am disappointed in with this car. I came from a BMW M3 and LOVED the paddles. On the M the car would downshift for you when the RPM's reached the point that it needed to when using the paddles, they don't on the Mustang. It isn't a big deal in normal driving, but when coming to a stop, it was nice that the car would go from 2nd to 1st for you so you wouldn't drop into 1st too soon, or have to do it once you stopped. Maybe it's just me, but that alone keeps me from using them on a regular basis....anyone else?

Why use paddle shifters if you are complaining about the car not shifting for you?

If you put your shift lever in S, and start using the paddles, it will hold the gear you select and will not downshift or upshift. Like a manual trans..

But if you leave it in D, and use the paddles, it will down shift. also you can leave it in D and select S+ mode and it will downshift....
Try it....
The car does downshift for you when the shifter is in S. It only does it when the RPM are very low. For the car to downshift into first, you have to be at a complete stop otherwise it will hold second.

It will always downshift in D or S when the rpm is too low.
However I think when in D, the downshifts are not rev matched.

I'm 99% sure mine has upshifted itself while in S if I don't get on it alot.

And I've only had the car a few days so haven't had a chance to mess with the paddles much. But is there a decent delay from the time you press it until it shifts? I've tried using the paddles in S once or twice, but the thing is basically wanting to redline immediately and it doesn't shift right away, so I end up having to let off the gas some to get rpm's down.

For me, yeah, there's like a 0.5 second delay. I've been in that situation once or twice as well where I tried shifting near the redline and and that 0.5 second delay seemed like forever, lol.

Okay guess I'll just have to play with it more. Sounds like you almost need to hit the paddle right when you floor it in first.

I'm also having a terrible time hooking up in first and somewhat second too. Man this things quick if I can figure out how to drive it.

The S mode has two modes. Once is just sport mode which it will hold a lower gear longer and shift at higher rpm.
Once you hit one of the pedals, it becomes manual mode and will only shift when you tell it to.

In D mode you can also manual shift but the gear will time out after some time and back to normal D mode again.

The auto cars are faster in a straight line if you just put the shiftier in S and don't touch the paddles so that car shifts for itself. The paddles are really only useful for curves or making exhaust noise.

The car does downshift on its own when you come to a stop if you don't do it yourself. I have noticed that sometimes it would hold the gear and not downshift if you are going slow enough but I don't have it down to an exact science when it does that.

I really should have gotten a manual and I actually wanted one, but I avoided it just because of how intimidating it was initially. Won't be making this mistake again going forward that's for sure.
I'm glad you've seen the light haha (I know I know autos are faster) I was initially intimidated too but went ahead and bought my 14GT brand new as my first manual. On my second now and can't see myself back in an auto car for a long time

I can't see myself Driving a manual in the city. I feel like I would be frustrated real quick.

Guys, the paddle shifters are pointless on the streets. Where they work well is on a road track. I heard a few guys complaining about the location of the paddles... well, they must of never ran a road course before. Watch any pro driver or shifter cart racer and you'll hands are at 10 & 2 right where the paddles are. There is no need to paddle shift driving around town, IMO.

I can understand why you would say this, but for me it doesn't seem pointless at all. Honestly, I've enjoyed my car a lot more using the paddles (again, should have gotten a manual). After just trying it out when I got the car, it became much more unsettling to let the car make all the predictions for me. Can't really enjoy spirited driving without being in control for me, lol.

Haha. Yeah I'm 99% sure I'll be going manual next time.
