So does anyone actually use these on a regular basis?? This is the only thing I am disappointed in with this car. I came from a BMW M3 and LOVED the paddles. On the M the car would downshift for you when the RPM's reached the point that it needed to when using the paddles, they don't on the Mustang. It isn't a big deal in normal driving, but when coming to a stop, it was nice that the car would go from 2nd to 1st for you so you wouldn't drop into 1st too soon, or have to do it once you stopped. Maybe it's just me, but that alone keeps me from using them on a regular basis....anyone else?

The car downshifts for you if you downshift correctly.

The car doesn't downshift automatically using the paddles if you let it do it on it's own...that was my point

No yeah it does. I meant to say that if you don't downshift yourself the car will downshift for you when coming to a stop.

Hmm...mine doesn't, it also doesn't upshift if you run the rpm's up past the shift point....if I'm in 3rd gear and I roll to a stop sign, it stays in 3rd

I know for a fact it doesn't upshift, but it will downshift itself. I've accidentally ran the RPM past the red line. Pulling into my neighborhood tho, it will shift from 2nd to 1st.

If you put your shift lever in S, and start using the paddles, it will hold the gear you select and will not downshift or upshift. Like a manual trans..

But if you leave it in D, and use the paddles, it will down shift. also you can leave it in D and select S+ mode and it will downshift....
Try it....

OK that's what I was wondering, I always drive in S, so I'll try it in S+ thanks...

I never use mine and would of rather had Tiptronic instead

Accidentally engaged them when attempting a 0-60 and ended up with 12 seconds xD
x2

I never use the paddles and would have preferred a manual shifter mode
Paddles are not for a muscle car IMO

Ya I had them in my R32 and never used them, then I got my M3 and loved them, haven't been able to see if I like them on the Stang because of the problems I mentioned in the OP....I'll try what redtrack said, and if I still don't like, I'll just forget about it....

I use mine all the time. Sometimes when going up hill and the transmission is in 6th gear bogging down, instead of tip in more gas, I just downshift a gear.
Sometimes when going downhill, car is getting faster without touching the gas. Instead of hitting the brakes, I just downshift a gear. Sometimes I wanna have some fun I just manual shift it getting off the line.

Funny that the car does what you complain about it not doing. Read the manual

I use mine about 95% of the time. The only times that I don't use them is right after a cold start in the very early morning or late night hours and I'm trying to creep out of the apartment complex to avoid waking people up. I've gotten into a habit of using them because I like to hear my exhaust. I've tried leaving it in Sports mode without manually shifting, but it's just not satisfying enough for me.

I really should have gotten a manual and I actually wanted one, but I avoided it just because of how intimidating it was initially. Won't be making this mistake again going forward that's for sure.

Also, I leave mine in S (not S+) and it'll always downshift to 1st when rolling to a complete stop or slowing down to just a few mph (2-3) to go over a speed bump, no matter what gear I'm in. I can, however, go to 2nd or 3rd if I'm at a complete stop and take off from there (although I don't).
