Hi all, just ordered me an Ecoboost. Gray/black manual non-premium. Pretty excited about getting it.

My background is I come from the Syclone and Typhoon community, so I love tuning boosted smaller motors, and that is what drew me to the Ecoboost. Tuning is far easier these days but still should be a lot of fun to have a turbo mustang.

My main question is regarding E85, I am lucky enough to live in Dallas and have several E85 stations at my disposal. I have used the search feature but haven't really found anything concrete on E85 in stock form and tuning with E85 and not modding the factory fuel system.

I would like to run E85 in my Ecoboost being as the price difference here makes it financially beneficial as well as having higher octane to boot.

So what is the scoop with these cars and E85?

I'm waiting for that as well. Would like to run E85 on the track and autocross courses.

So far the consensus seems to be - you might be able to run it at stock power levels if you just want to use cheaper fuel. But the fuel system doesn't have enough capacity to take advantage of it to make more power.

So has any of the tuners come up with a reliable E85 tune?

Not yet. Don't think anyone will bother until the fuel system is upgraded and we can use it to make more power.

You will not see E85 tunes for these cars until the fueling issue is figured out.

Right now there is not enough fuel being supplied by the HPFP at higher boost/power levels. Anything over 23psi on pump gas will tax the fuel system.

So is it safe to run E85 in stock trim?

No. E85 requires 40% more fuel to make the same power as pump gas and the EB doesn't have that much headroom in the fuel system.

I experimented with an E30 tune with Torrie and was not able to safely fuel. Might work in summer but I would be careful at this point. Need fuel system mods.

Nice! I had a 93 typhoon loved that boosted launch. Wish I still had it. Got a pic?

I'm surprised nobody mentioned 'black death' yet when it comes to e85. Usually happens at 50% concentrates or higher. On port and direct injected too. For those of you who would like to know more google 'e85 black death', there are tons of links to choose from.

Should give you an idea too that it's not just about be able to deliver more fuel. Many variables to consider with e85 mixes than just filling your tank up.

Guessing just by the name that it has something to do with parts not meant for use with high concentrations of Ethanol failing in one way or another. It is something to keep in mind in the future for those wanting to use E85 or blends. I'll be sticking with whatever I can make on 93 octane personally.

Bingo. Gums the shit out of fuel pumps and all the other good stuff. Like I said it usually happens with higher than 50% mixes but I've seen it happen around a 30% mix already on a Mazdaspeed.

Yeah. I have a pic of my Sy, just don't know how to post it on here. Miss that truck. Looks like I will be sticking to 93 given the info, too bad since E85 is so available to me.
