Keep in mind, this is for a 4K oil change and a longer oil change interval would reveal how higher cost oils outperform your cheaper oils.

That's what I gathered from the article and it certainly makes sense. As long as the oil is API certified and of correct grade for your engine. You will be just fine as long oil is changed at recommended intervals.

Indeed. Some people are super anal about their oil types, but in the end...unless you're tracking the car it's not likely to make any difference in engine longevity.

so with the 18+ now taking 10 quarts, are you guys stretching your changes out farther? Or still changing around the 5k mark?


On my 15 i did mobil one every 5k. Read a lot of negative about mobil but ive never noticed any problems

My opinion is that oil is cheap. I would rather change it more frequently. The filter doesn't get everything out, but an oil change is more likely to get those small particles and contaminants out of the engine.

I did my first oil change at 27xx miles and switched to Pennzoil Platinum 5w-20 with a Motorcraft FL-500s filter. The second oil change was at 98xx miles and went with Pennzoil Platinum Ultra 5w-20. Sent the previous oil to Blackstone labs for analysis and the oil was still in good condition considering the engine is still breaking in. It just depends on how hard you drive and your conditions. Most people dont need to change at 5K, especially if running a quality oil.

I change mine every 6k miles starting when the car hit the 3k mile mark with Motorcraft Full Synthetic. I have noticed that my oil consumption has gone down considerably in the last 30k miles as well and the engine runs and idles smooth as butter! I don't track but do drive spirited most of the time..lol

MC is good oil. I wouldn't hesitate to use it with confidence.
