I've been commuting to work using public transit for the last 2 months. My company reimburses me half the cost of the pass, I don't put miles on my car, I save about $200-300 a month on gas, and I fly by all the commuters on the carpool lane. There's so many positives with this. However, now that I got over the fear of leaving my car at the local park and ride, I have a new threat, AZ HEAT! It's starting to warm up and there isn't much covered parking. I'd have to leave on the earliest of express buses to get covered parking but who wants to be at work 2 hours early?

I've been contemplating other ways of getting to the bus stop but riding my bike for 8 miles before work might not be too hygienic. I thought about getting a beater car but the thought of insurance defeats the purpose. I just thought about a car cover. I found one that uses sunbrella material and reflects UV's.

Knowing these options, what would you choose? Do you guys have another idea?

I would rather prefer keeping the stang in the garage.

I have to park my car in the sun in Denver Colorado. Tinted windows (looks cool IMHO) and a reflective sun shade in the windshield.

The downside of a car cover is the car needs to be clean or any flapping caused by the wind will leave scratches.

My $.02.

I'd just tint the windows and get a weather-tech windshield shade. I do and it will fully protect the interior. For the exterior, just keep it waxed and hit the plastic with Aerospace 303 protectant once a week or so to block out the UV rays. My car is parked outside 24/7 so it see's 0 degree days with snow in the winter and 100 degree days and sun in the summer. It still looks great after almost 3 years in the elements. I do have a cover that I will throw on before snow storms, but I wouldn't use it everyday, like the post above says, you should only put a cover on a clean car.

Park it outside like others say, just keep her waxed and protected, windows tinted, and sunscreen on the front window. My cars sit outside at work in Texas heat and garage at night, never had issue with paint color fading, losing shine, etc... My car outshines all the others around here in the parking lot as well, even my older cars have better finishes on them many years later than new cars people drive for a couple months. Its all about doing the work to protect the paint and keep her clean. Ditch the cover, it will cause more issues and scratches.

Almost forgot, I think most ceramic coatings have UV protection built in, it might be worth looking into having it done to your car.

You should do what makes you happy, but IMO you shouldn't buy a car that you won't want to drive. Either buy a cheaper, less collectible Mustang or just drive your car and have fun. That's what the car is for - fun. AMIRIGHT?
