Picked my car from storage and noticed oil under the car. Jacked the car up on stands to take a look. Could this be a main seal or a oil pan gasket?
I haven't checked if the pan bolts are loose. Looking through the inspection hole, the flywheel back side (between motor and flywheel) is bone dry no sign of slung oil. Am I safe to say its the pan gasket?

It could definitely be one or the other, but most likely coming from the oil pan. Have you had the pan off for any reason? I suggest torquing the pan bolts to 89 in-lbs., spray the affected area down with brake and parts cleaner and monitor to see if the leak returns.

As far as the read main seal goes, I’ve replaced mine recently, but it wasn’t due to a failure. I did it to add what I believed to be a stronger and more durable seal and plate, since I was already there performing a clutch install. In my case, I went with the MMR plate, trigger wheel, crank sensor and seal. I do I believe you can purchase the seal only too. The MMR plate uses a Viton seal and rope gasket that fits into a machined channel, instead of RTV that is used on the factory plate.

I have not had the pan off. Ok, sounds like a good plan. I will take your advice. Retorque pan bolts, clean up area and monitor. Might even lightly dust the area with baby powder to better trace where the leak is coming from.
Thanks Dan

Great idea on the use of the baby powder! Hopefully that’s all it is. Please keep us posted.

Have you looked from the top yet? I'm not familiar with the 5.0 but lots of cars have sensors above that area that can leak and there's always the valve cover gaskets. Maybe use an extendable mirror and a flashlight to see in the back to see if it's coming from higher up.
