Sorry to hear that mate, the irony must be pretty galling. Maybe news of it will reach Ford while they're contemplating a response to the letter from Bushranger.

Only one Ford dealer in Canberra, keen to know what response you get.

What brought it to your attention and did you get the milkshake in the overflow tank? That US TSB does refer to a replacement engine under certain circumstances...but then you need to let the dealership near your car.

^^^ Not good to hear. I hope it can be fixed to your satisfaction and that you're not out of pocket.

It is a known fault so the mods should not affect the outcome. There are precedents in the UK where modded cars were fixed.

All the best, let us know how you get on.

Well today my car oil cooler shit itself ironically I’ve purchased the street fighter kit and dropped it off at the mechanics for a early Jan install on the way home the cooler died.

So has anyone on this forum had a failed oil cooler if so were you out of pocket? Did you have any mods etc

If no one has I will report when I know more tomorrow when I drop it off at a ford dealer.

I have Mods Xforce headers, CAI, Tune so will let you all know but if someone has been through this would love to know the outcome thanks
What bad luck!
Makes it even worse that you were in process of doing something pro-active to prevent it.
Did it leak internally or externally? Engine damaged?
I am very keen to hear how you go with Ford.
If I can be of any assistance please contact me.

How old is the Mustang and what mileage have you done?
I understand that there are identical issues here in NZ but Ford NZ is trying to keep the lid on the issue by replacing engines without question.
So far it doesn't seemed to have got out into the motoring media
Good luck with the warranty

Maybe write to ACCC or the body overseeing Ford and the auto trans issue in Mondeos and Fiestas.

I spoke to my salesman about it. He said he hadn't had discussions with Harrop about their kit because he's only come across 2 instances and in both a new engine was fitted no questions asked.

It is only affecting cars up to a certain period and he's not encouraging customers to go an aftermarket fix.

I will post pics when I get home.

No engine damage as far as I know no steam or engine lights etc.

Built March 10 2016
24000k on the clock

Awesome, good to know on both counts.

Hi Phil,

Certainly has, it was reported as happening to one of Streetfighter's client's cars during a MOTOR test of modified Mustangs. The story is mentioned either here or in the Streetfighter Oil Cooler thread. But it hasn't really become a huge public issue - ditto the evap failure - probably because the incidence still seems relatively rare. It's just gut wrenching for those it happens to. Engine replacement without question is cold comfort but technically Ford is meeting its obligations, a question is what happens if they fail after 5-10 years since no one knows the longevity of the replacement or the exact cause.

This is where it's good to keep up a good relationship with the selling dealer. Sure, servicing may cost a bit more but I've always found it pays benefits when something goes amiss.

In the UK I think one 6G member who had mods had a difficult time with his dealer but it eventually got sorted.

My salesman told me it only affects cars up to July 16 build, so mine is in there; if I have a problem he's said new engine, no mucking about.

That's what I've found out, hopefully it'll never happen to mine.

Agree completely.
Haven't exactly bought a Lexus. Got six year Ford Factory warranty for this very reason.
Should still be available to owners of cars within original New Car Warranty period. Doubt anyone's exceeded 100 000 kms and oldest S550 in Australia would barely be 2 years old.

The original TSB had build dates up to a certain point, however there have now been reports of failures in cars built after that date, with replacement coolers being parts from prior to that date (go figure!) So it seems that build date might not actually be that helpful.

Ford will be offering an oil cooler/evaporator core value pack before too much longer.

Surely it would be economically (far) wiser for them to replace all of the dodgy oil coolers now rather than facing the possibility of mass engine replacement claims down the track.

I'm sure that their bean counters have it covered.
