It just depends on what kind of car owner you are. Are you OK with "good enough" or do you want "best"? Motorcraft is "good enough".

Different strokes. I'm of the "does this net me anything of value?" croud. Oil is the easiest place to throw your money away on your car, especially guys that change the oil every 5 miles.

That being said it's your car, your money, and your peace of mind. While full synthetic likely won't help anything, it won't hurt anything, either.

My dealer said that service is free for the first 90 days. Sounds strange. I will be at about 3k mi by then. I m taking her in but only to get the free oil change service from ford. Has anyone else been told this.

I have a few opinions on oil changes. Good clean oil and filters is never a bad thing. You cant change your oil too early. I don't think Ford or any manufacturer uses a special break in oil there may be some assembly lube used but not enough to make a difference in the long run. These engines are mass produced in a factory not a speed shops CLEAN ROOM. There is going to be some metal shavings in a engine made this way no one will get all of it out. I have seen metal come out of engines on the first oil change most people don't look that hard. Me change oil after 500 miles again at 1500 then your regular interval you like me 5000 miles. I can hear some of you banging on your key boards already.

If you are concerned about metal particulates in the oil there are magnetic drain plugs that you can use that should collect any metal floating around in the system. I used one on my previous car and it was surprising how many fine particulates it collected after each oil change. I change my oil every 3k miles because I drive my cars like i stole them. :headbang:

Do you have to use synthetic oils in the GT? I've always used 100% natural motor oil and I'm leery of changing brands.

Nope, you don't. I have only used synthetic in every car I have owned and will in my GT. Piece of mind and great results. More money, but worth it.

It's not a money issue; I'm a very brand-loyal person, amd have always used Castrol GTx since I first changed an oil filter 25 years ago. I'd rather not turn my back on them.

You have to use an oil that meets the same API standards as OE.

Understand. Didn't mean it was a money issue, just the fact synthetic is far more expensive:cheers:

I am brand loyal to Mobil One and Royal Purple.

I always ran Mobil 1 in my $100 beaters. My work van requires the Mercedes Mobil oil. It has a long track record. I'm a fan. I may try some of the custom blends once I have a oil sample history.

Although you guys may be brand loyal because you dump the oil in the car and it doesn't blow up there is more to it.

I've been doing oil analysis for quite some time and what I have found is what I expected.

Mobil One= garbage
10-15 years ago it was the way to go. Great additives and many companies used them as factory fill. What if I told you that the case you buy from Cosco for 50 bucks is not 100% synthetic.

It may shock some but a synthetic oil in the states is considered a 51% synthetic with 49 percent non synthetic. It is one of the lowest quality oils you can buy.

The only Mobil One that has a higher percentage is the European 0w-40 formula.

Royal Purple has the same story. Another garbage oil with a lot of hype backing it. The only oil they make that is good is their 50 weight racing oil.

High quality oils
Amsoil
All 100% synthetic oils with great selection and performance. Great anti wear additives as well. Also a decent price.

Motul
100% oil synthetic
Great oil, as well as great gear oils
Only downside is price.

Penrite
100% synthetic oil, great for racing applications but very expensive

Castrol
It's not 100% synthetic but is one of the best oils that you can buy from your local auto supply store.

Oil Filters
The oem filter is most likely of high quality although I don't know who manufactures it.
WIX is a great easy to find filter
MANN filters are big in the euro scene but provide great filtering
Amsoil filters use fully synthetic filter material but cost 10+ a filter
Royal Purple makes shit oil but their filters are decent. They are expensive as well.

If you guys are planning to change your oil soon check out Blackstone Labrotories

They will send you a free kit and charge 25 for the service plus the shipping to send it to them.
