When you get that electronic message to change oil is that based on a time interval, a mileage amount or a sensor of the condition of the oil?

The oil percentage indication message decides to give you notice based on your type of driving standards. Just follow what it says and it will be a safe time to do the change. I think I took my first oil change all way to 3% .

It's based on how the engine is used, and by time. My OLM life remaining went down significantly while my car was in winter storage last winter and never driven.

Yeah it records engine temps, miles, a whole host of things to derive a life expectancy.

How do you check the % of oil life on these? I only see an option to reset oil life.
You reset the "Oil Life" monitor when you are seeing it. It's in the information display menus ... check the owner's manual to see how to get there.

It's mostly time and mileage. One person's 4,000 miles in 11 months can read 5% left (because of 11 of 12 months has elapsed) while another person's 4,000 miles in 6 months can read around 50% (4,000 miles is right around half of the 7500 interval the manual uses).
