So, I want to have everything done at the dealers to keep warranty up. Got display message saying I need an oil change.
Asked dealer and they have come back with £232 and 1.5 hours!

And that is why, in the US, we have the Magnuson Moss Warranty Act, which prohibits a manufacturer from requiring service at a dealership.

 I know you know this but for anyone that doesn't know, any Vat registered garage can service your car and not affect warranty
This.

As long as correct oil, filter is used and a VAT registered garage does it, by law warranty cannot be denied.

Oil and filter cost Ford less than £50, so they are trying to get £150 in labour charges for a 30 minute job, LOL!

I was aware of the vat-registered garage bit, but for those that do their own oil changes...do they just not mention that when speaking to Ford to preserve warranty and/or avoid any potential blame for engine issues?
Not that I'm suggesting anyone would screw up an oil change or anything... :)

Doesn't a service include an oil change and come at a lower cost than they've quoted you for JUST an oil change?

I may be wrong

I changed my oil and filter @1500 miles.I'm getting the puddle light changed this week under warranty, so I thought while I'm there get a service done and the book stamped (5200 miles now)
But any garage can do it!

Whoa!!!! What!?! ..... I had an oil and filter change done a few weeks ago (right after the Silverstone day) at Evans Halshaw Wolverhampton, which they were going to charge me £120 to do - but as they had messed me about by not having the parts in stock when I originally booked it in the price was reduced to £102.

Think your dealer needs to check his prices! :paddle: :)

Would it not be cheaper to take out the 3 year service plan for £590

Block exemption rules in the EU mean that any VAT registered garage can work on the car without affecting the warranty.... if its really only an oil and filter change, get someone else (trusted) to do it for <1/2 the price and keep the receipts.

Once out of warranty, having such work done outside the network will affect any potential goodwill from Ford, but apart from that id rather buy a car thats been attended to by a marque specialist, rather than a spanner monkey at a generic dealership.

Are you able to clear the service message yourself or is it one of those ones that needs a dealer or garage magic?

Dealer is clearly taking the mick. Id expect an oil change to be about 140. They may have allowed a bit of contingency in the pricing as think it's likely to need other minor works?

Must be a gold plated oil filter being installed by a mechanic with diamond encrusted tools:lol::lol:.

To put this into perspective....my first oil Chang cost £25 quid....

10 litres castrol 5-20 magnatec £20. (I got lucky on eBay)
Genuine Ford oil filter from local dealer £5

45 minutes of my time = free....

My local independent quoted £75 inc oil & filter... Which I was happy with, but fancied doing it myself..:)

On their web site Bill Shepherd quote "from £200 + VAT" for oil and filter service.
