Should I be concerned? I had factory oil til 8k (oem syn blend) then I put motorcraft full synthetic for 10k til 18k. Then at 18k I put amsoil signature and just did 10k oil analysis at 28k

says iron is 40 could I have an issue? I don’t smoke etc. I had a catted downpipe on car for about 3k. Not sure if that could of done something.

I take it this is the first analysis? I'd run it next and then see what results you get. Also, have you looked at BITOG and posted your results?

I am not a member there. I assume it’s fine. He said in the notes this is my 3rd change or could still been from break in.

Iron analysis is sketchy at best. There are many variables with the type and micron level of the iron in oil.
There is a white paper on this very subject that clears up confusion with iron particles.
One thing most don’t take into consideration is valve springs shedding iron. Think about dual springs and the high amount of contact during actuation. 9 times out of 10 it’s the valve springs creating high iron readings.
In that case it’s natural and unavoidable causing no reason for concern.

I’ll search this weekend for the iron oil write up and post it if I find it. It’s a real eye opener. There’s not many labs other than the OEM’s that can accurately assess oil iron content and it being a benign anomaly, normal wear or mechanical failure.

Thanks!. my car is handling and driving fine, I feel its fine. I was just concerned as they was concerned. I am going to do a 15k next time. I feel confident in the levels other than the iron.

Hey OP, I'd black out your personal information. I'm not the paranoid type, and don't mind my license plate showing. But your name, address, and even phone number on a public forum is a bit much nowadays :). Take care.

I’m not too worried about the iron now after reading. I’m going to run 15k on next change and re Analysis.

I've been around ASE Master Technicians who have said the Ford oil change intervals are complete BS. This might sound insane and expensive especially if you're using Amsoil but every 3000 miles I would change the oil. Even with those Ecoboost motors that tend to have problems with the turbos. The iron levels should be fine though.

So Porsche 911 OCI is 20,000 miles.
That should put the outdated 3000 mile OCI to rest.
Unless of course someone is using oil left over from Great Grandpas estate sale.

I couldn't imagine driving my car 20,000 miles then changing the oil. Especially performance vehicles that rely on very tight clearances within the engine. Maybe its just personal preference but 3k has kept my vehicles going.
