Pat,

Have you tried something like this?

I can't get to YouTube at work, can you give me a general Synopsis? I'm about to go out to my car and try a Keyboard method I heard about...

What if that RST was just a simple contact to shut temporarily the power to the unit and power back on...? (Kinda like the Tomtop headunit)

I posted this stereo in the Facebook S550 group and someone " People shouldnt buy these because they are Chinese junk. And his friend had someone bring his car to the dealer and it had a bad PCM and they voided his warranty because of the stereo.

I highly doubt this to be true. Oh but he works for a Ford dealer. Anybody ever blow their PCM or BCM from a stereo?

Yes, to fix the Engrish, and change the launcher, you have to be rooted.
The firmware updates fix little things, like remove Chinese Characters on boot screen, and change the speed readout from KmH to MPH.

All modified APK's require root, because they are replacing System applications.

Eventually, I believe the plan is to compile all of the fixed APK's and updated launcher into an Update.IMG file that won't require a root to update everything, but because we don't have a known method for booting into recovery mode, we are testing cautiously. If they would just TELL ME how to get into recovery, we'd be able to move along MUCH faster.

I've gone all week with a gaping hole in my dash, waiting for replacement parts, or an answer on getting into recovery mode.

If anyone who purchased this outside of the group buy will PM me, we may have some leverage on getting the recovery information!!!
Ahhh ok, now it all makes sense. Thanks

Which Facebook S550 Group? I'm in a few, and I've noticed quite a few crybabies in them who always bring up warranties when they see something they can't afford.

A radio won't blow up a PCM.

I agree with Pat, I don't think the radio is supplying any power to the vehicle that could cause that sort of issue. Plus, If I had that sort of problem, I would likely throw the original radio back in the car prior to getting it to the dealer.

Yeah, and let's stop calling me Pat. :)
Sorry Patrick, my bad. As a guy with the horible name Samuel, I prefer to just be called Sam. And, completely joking here, it's a good thing I'm not the Chinese programmer who misspelled the words like "Engrish" and "Dail." If I were that guy, I would probably misspell your name as Patdick.

Ran across this, you may have too. Its meant for a different unit, but maybe our unit is similar.

1. Take off the top of the HU.
2. Look for the little C17 connector in the upper middle of the board.
3. With metal tweezers short circuit the connector until it restarts completely then let go.
4. Once in recovery, to move down the list make a quick short circuit on the C17 connector. To select, short circuit it for about 2-3 seconds. **Not too long or you'll restart the HU**
