The current GT350 will inevitably fall behind future Mustang GTs in the years to come. Just like the BOSS 302 and every other Mustang model has had their performance surpassed. It doesn't make them any less valuable, to collectors, anymore than a '67 GT350 would because it would be blown away by any current versions of Mustang.

If someone bought a GT350 in the last few years thinking it would continue to be the ultimate Mustang in perpetuity, they are/were crazy. Saying that, a Coyote putting out more power than a current Voodoo, is not beyond belief, I would think very probable. It would not surprise me if the Voodoo doesn't get a power bump in the near future either.

Everything is built to be surpassed at some point, and we are all the faster for it!
My point on the statement I made (presuming you're referring to it here) is that those surpassing numbers for GT vs the special editions isn't gonna happen in a year. That detracts significantly from the initial appeal of buying a special edition.

Ford potentially putting 485 hp in the standard GT is not them playing all their cards. Remember Ford Performance promised 12 models by 2020. Depending on how you count, we're roughly halfway there. So around 6 more models in these next 3 model years. They won't be all Mustangs, but I'm fairly certain there will be several special editions, all with more horsepower (probably some with different engines). They can bump up the 5.0 now because it'll be plenty high to keep people interested for 3 years that don't buy the special editions. And I'd bet the motor will just get carried over mostly unchanged for S650 if the N/A V8 does end up surviving to the next gen.
A $45K Mustang is basically a fully-loaded, top-trim car (not to mention the discounts/incentives available from Ford or dealers)... So that's not at all representative of the car or the price most of the Mustang demographic is paying. Ford is never going to treat this car like a $45K luxury car with top notch build quality, nor do I believe they really need to.

I might feel more upset about this if I had personally observed as many of the issues that people seem to complain about. My experience has certainly not been perfect, especially compared to the 2007 Lexus IS350 I had before, but given the features and the performance we get for the price, I don't think the end product is at all unreasonable.

Ok so I was off by a few thousand. But still...if I'm paying the price for this car I expect quality for $40 grand.

I get where you're coming from but it's not unreasonable to put things into perspective. The Mustang IS a $20-25k car. We can all agree the base V6, EB and GT are all fantastic cars for the price. Sure, you can add on $10k+ worth of options and technically yes, it is a $40k car now, but it's a bit unrealistic to compare it to say a BMW or Lexus for build quality and materials. Yes, the build quality and materials on a ~$40k luxury car is worlds better than a Mustang but what kind of engine do you get for that price? A 240-300HP 4-cylinder turbo that sounds like poo. If you want a world class luxury interior with the same power as the GT, you're looking at least $60-75K from a luxury marque.

Another good example would be the C7. Unbelievable performance rivaling $100K+ sportscars but terrible build quality and plastic body panels. I still really want one though.

You're letting Ford off too easy on this one. I don't think it is unrealistic to compare it to a BMW or Lexus. After all, a 3 series BMW is just a $25,000 car with a BMW badge, and a Lexus is a Toyota with an L on the front. And you don't need to go high-end, you can compare body panel fit to a $19,000 Civic or a $25000 Sonata or a $35000 Avalon. Body panels should fit...period.

I get it, the fit and finish is basically the same from a base V6 up through a GT350, but there is no reason in 2017 not to have near perfect fit and finish on cars in the $20K range. If it takes an extra $100 or even $1000 a car, take it out of the marketing budget. It will pay for itself in sales and service.

Please prove otherwise.

I'm not disagreeing, and I'm planning on getting one...but...I'm not giving any car maker a pass on build quality in 2017.

Ford's Mustang Motto - "Fast Affordable & Fun", well Fords got at least two out of three or maybe just one if you ask the guy in the Hellcat, Corvette or Camaro SS.
This may have been true back in the 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's but heck Mustangs have gained some weight (also some HP / TQ) and the price keeps going up.

I picked up a fully loaded Mustang GT Premium back in 2005 for 30k, that will get you a base GT these days. Ford isn't concerned about jacking the price now because the Mustang is a world wide sports car. Honestly I hope it does not go too far in terms of pricing - because before you know it we will be in corvette territory and thats why am not driving one of those animals.

P.S Just kidding about the corvette comment - always a Ford Fan.

Really now there's people in here complaining about the price? Really, it's a 25k car with a V8 engine. Complete morons. Find me a better car for 45 k? Does not exist. Premium trim looks better than the Is350 and 3/4 series (I came from a 428I l, I would know). Do not even need to say anything about the performance.

You are talking pricing from 13 years ago and even so, you are getting a heck of a lot more car today, at the same price, in a base GT.

I'll one better you, back in '91 I could have gotten a brand new 5.0 lx for $13,000 cdn. Time moves on, stuff gets more expensive, you still pay taxes and are that much closer to death. So is life.

I used to get a Snickers bar "Premium" for $.05 in the 60's and look what they cost today. :D

There are issues that Ford refuses to acknowledge with a recall and redesign, like the infamous driveline vibration. Also in 10+ years they have not figured out how to prep aluminum parts. The hood on my '07 corroded and on my '15 the paint bubbles began at just over 2 years in from the same seam!

Found this rendering by Kris Horton. Wow, just wow! :headbang:
That's a great render, and to me, the design looks pretty mean and aggressive, at least from that angle.
