I’m preparing to install a MGW shifter. I’m trying to remove the bolt that holds the OEM shifter arm. I unbolted the transmission crossmember to give me more room. Even with that, it’s still not low enough too to pull out the bolt. I’ve tried pulling down in the transmission while pulling out the bolt but still can’t quite get it. I have a ‘21 GT. Anyone else have this issue?

You have to support the tranny with a jack and remove the carrier bearing in the center of the driveshaft and the shifter support bracket. That will let you lower it enough.

Is the car on a lift or jack stands? Not sure if your suspension is loaded or not, could be an issue. It shouldn’t really make that much of a difference the way I look at it, but it might be just enough to get the bolt out.

I didn’t mention removing the exhaust and driveshaft because some people install the shifter with them in place, However, if you want super easy access to everything, it would be best to remove them. That’s what I did when I installed my shifter.
