I was considering a Cobra Kit car awhile back, this was the main reason it couldn't be done was smogging and registering the car in Kali.
Even outside kali, some states make it a r.p.i.t.a.

I’ve read some things about A/C lines and cutting studs and all kinds of headaches. I’m a machinist so I it’s not like I couldn’t make anything work but is it really worth it? In line with my original question, if the OE headers do the job with forced air how deficient can I possibly be with bolt ons.
catted headers maybe 10-15 whp, catless maybe 20-25 whp. Unless you really like the sound of long tubes, I'd say it's not worth the time/effort unless you're going for balls out E85 NA build or you spend a lot of time at high rpms like a track day.

I was originally going to just do headers and tune but the cost of that made forced induction seem like a much better deal, so I went that route. I later decided to add headers since the gains are better with forced induction and make everything a little more efficient. One of my bigger regrets - I don't feel the cost was justified (even now with forced induction), clearance issues after install, CEL from high flow cats I'm trying to work around, and now the car can't be easily reverted to stock.
