I use 93 but my commute isnt that far and I dont have to gas up that often. On a road trip I'll just put in 87

Now that gas is less expensive at under $3/gallon, I'm sticking with Shell 93. Haven't even tried or considered anything else yet.

With my previous car, '14 Explorer XLT with the 6 cyl, I experimented with both Shell 93 and 87. I always got slightly better mpg with 93, usually 1.5 - 2 mpg. which partly offset the cost differential. I'd be curious to see if there's any mpg difference with a Coyote, but as long as the price stays under $3, I'll wait to find out.

are you really going to save much money not going with 93? who cares, just use 93.
On base gas is 1.94 for 87 and 2.49 for 93. I normally fill up at 13.5 gallons. So for 87, it is 26.19 and for 93, it is 33.62. Filling up about once a week, that's enough savings for one additional tank of gas. Yeah, you're saving plenty. I've been alternating octanes just to make me feel better, but there isn't any discernible difference with the butt dyno. Plus, I don't drive like a asshole 6 out of 7 days.

Depends how much you drive. My closest station is $.40 difference- $2.23 vs $2.63. If you put in 14-15 gallons that's $5.50-$6 per fillup.

If you fillup once a week, that's a few hundred bucks over the course of a year depending how often you fill up. $300+ per year if you fill up once per week. Not small fries money really.

You guys keep talking about "what your wallet can handle"...the difference between regular and premium is like 40-50 cents per gallon. To fill up the tank from empty is like 7 bux.

If 7 bux a fillup is going to make or break your budget then you got bigger things to worry about than what gas to put in your car. For that matter, maybe you should not be driving a 35,000 car if you can't afford an extra 7 bux per tank of gas.

Yeah, you're saving plenty.
Plenty? You just dropped 35-40k on a brand new car and you're worried about 28 bux a month?

Hey if you're so rich that $300-400 a year doesnt matter feel free to send it out to each of us yearly. Until then shouldn't be commenting on other people's financials.

$3-400 is an extra mod per year instead of 0 performance gain daily driving running 93.

Never said it doesn't matter. But after dropping that kind of cash on a hi-po car only to skimp out on that minuscule amount (in comparison) is interesting logic.

It's like your cable provider increasing your subscription fee up by $30 a month. Trust me you would not take it lightly over the course of your contract. Generally as much as it looks minimal, there is that psychological effect we feel in our behavioral spending.

You are forgetting the fact that most of these cars are FINANCED. Hence there is an obligation of making monthly payments towards the loan. Heck people still FiNANCE cars under $10grand, I bet you would be the same guy asking them why don't they just buy out the cars with straight cash?

There's a difference in getting jacked for an extra $30 a month on cable and not getting a single benefit vs. paying an extra $30 a month on gas and seeing some pretty decent gains in performance.

If the extra cost of higher octane, as minuscule as it may be, didn't make a lick of difference then hell no I would not want to pay it. But that's not the case.

Exactly my point, you go out and get a loan out for $500 a month, pay $100+ a month on insurance but then cringe at having to spend an extra $30 to get the full benefit out of your car? If that $30 a month is breaking you budget and making your family go hungry maybe you can't really afford a new Mustang.

That's like buying an huge fancy 4K UHD TV but watching low-def channels because you don't want to pay extra for the HD channels.

And no, I don't recommend buying a car on straight up cash especially when you can get a 0% APR rate. That money is better off in a money market account earning you interest than being used to buy a car that you could otherwise buy with no interest.

And someone will argue that you will not see the benefits of the minimal difference between using 87 octane vs premium octane for a daily driver unless dynoed. It's a complex argument.
