I have used more drying aid products than I care to admit! :giggle:

The concept of a drying aid is provide lubrication while using a towel to dry your car. In the process, you add extra gloss and protection to your paint.

The new Obsessed Garage Drying Aid replaces Bead Maker in their store as the preferred drying aid. Having used Bead Maker extensively, to replace it, a product would need to be pretty special. While many have had issues with Bead Maker, including streaking and dusting, I never really suffered such problems. I believe climatic conditions play their role here, clearly I have the right climate.

The Obsessed Garage Drying Aid is a colorless and scent free product, although it does have a similar chemical smell to something like CarPro EliXir. The lack of scent does take some of the fun out of using it, but the lack of scent and color is said to prevent staining of towels and bottles. This product can be used on painted surfaces, plastic trims, head lights, glass and wheels.

My process for drying a car is to use my blower to remove 90-95% of the water before going over the car with a towel and drying aid. To do this, prime the towel with a few sprays of product, a few sprays on the panel and wipe till dry and glossy.

Using this product for the first time, I was immediately impressed with how easy it was to use, requiring little in the way of follow up wiping. So impressed, I have been using on the wheels, door jambs and engine bay too.

The end result is not quite as glossy and slick as Bead Maker, probably about 90%, but a much easier product to use.

Only problem for me is the cost of getting it delivered to Australia.

(OG) Slipstream is good stuff, there’s a couple variants out there of this product. I’ve used it on a couple cars so far, agree Beadmaker still has the edge on the gloss meter.

Nice writeup.

I've been using Griot's Ceramic Speed Shine on top of their Ceramic 3-in-1 spray wax

This is my drying aid. Only use it in the garage so plugging in is never a problem. Cheaper and lighter than a battery model, and more powerful than most battery-powered models. 200 mph.

After decades of drying with towels, I got turned on to this piece of kit from The Tomster. Some of the best advice I've ever received. Not only does it put out a ton of air, but it warms the air as well and dries a vehicle in no time.

I have had a dedicated blower for over 18 months now after using a leaf blower prior. The heating function is definitely nice to have in the cooler months of the year. I thought I would find it cumbersome to drag around but it's no all that bad.

D: I had the same reservations initially but you are quite correct, dedicated blowers are easy to use and SO much better than towels and an air compressor blow gun. For me, it's one of the most important "car tools."

For me, every time I decide to take a "shortcut" and just grab my leaf blower, I always regret it. The dedicated blower is just more effective. Some of that will come down to the air output of my Stihl BGA 56 not being as forceful as some of the blowers posted above. In that regard, I can totally understand why people like the freedom a blower affords.

I also still use a towels after using my blower though. That is where the "drying aid" comes in. The difference for me is where I once needed large drying towels to fully dry a car, I now only need the smaller towel/s to get the job done.

very good to know! funny i was just talking about this product the other day with a friend of mine. I have been using adams H20 guard and gloss, and also adams detail spray for a drying aid. dust does seem to be an issue even when garage kept which is dissapointing. so i often throw a car cover on to help mitigate that issue. i will have to try this out as soon as i need a refill on product

I was a Bead Maker user but I have changed over to Xtream Solutions Topper.
