Matt,, great post. I am doing the exact same math in my head....Vroom offer is up to 42K for my paid off SRT, or do I trade it in at approximately 40K and save some tax....either way it seems to be a good deal. Now I just need to find a dealer that will let me test drive a M1.....

I'm considering Vroom since their offer moments ago was a full $4K above what I was expecting -- recognizing the prices are changing as new car production is slowed. Anything to watch out for with Vroom?

You just got their offer? It should be good for 5 days I think. Give it 24 hours before you do anything. They sent me a follow up email increasing the offer by $500. Not sure if that’s going to happen for you but it’s worth waiting a day or two.
overall the process was pretty easy. When you do decide to sell make sure the car is ready! They contract out to auto shippers. Vroom gave me a 3 day window of when the car would be picked up. Couple hours later I get a call from the driver that he will be at my door in 30 min. Thankfully I had the car ready so it wasn’t a problem. The driver will do a walk around looking for any issues. I had already taken pictures and made sure the car was detailed so he only spent about 2 min looking at it.
lastly don’t forget your garage door opener! The one thing I forgot in the car and didn’t realize until a few hours later.

Thanks, I'm waiting since I'm not in the same state as the car until Sunday. I'll clear the garage door openers and wipe the nav system memory and call history, and shutdown Sirius before I set up a pick-up. Just ran the car through KBB and they're $4K below vroom!

I’m not sure what their business model is and how they can make money but that’s not my problem lol. As long as they are paying crazy prices we might as well take advantage. In my experience carvana was right in line with kbb. I was so surprised by Vroom’s offer I called my bank to get their feelings on it to make sure it wasn’t a scam. As soon as they told me they had done business with them I didn’t hesitate.

I'm using Vroom as leverage on my trade-in. It works.

I'm in the same boat (DFW) . Maybe it would be worth the drive to IA if Zach gave better trade in to save tax?

If you look at my math above, it comes out almost equal if Vroom pays me the $37,170. Zach certainly will work with you on your trade and give you a good deal.

You are right the higher money Vroom gives you would negate some of the money you save on the trade in for tax so it sounds like a wash.
