The oil can transfer onto the MAF sensor and cause all sorts of troubles, O2 sensors etc,

I know what your going to say... Don't put so much oil on it, I understand that! However it's an accumilation over time, I don't really want oil going through my intake

If you are having oil getting on the MAF then the filter is over oiled.

No your completely wrong! In time the oil is transferred and gets sucked into the intake tube, it will be slow but over time can cause a lot of issues, many people have had this happen when they have never re oiled their filter

Well I have been using oiled foam and oiled gauze filters in all my cars since the mid 80's and have never had any oil residue down stream of the filter. Also, every time this comes up in magazine articles its always the same response; if you have oil residue down stream it is because the filter is over oiled.

I had issues on a previous platform with the oil fouling the maf. Filter was new out the bag and I did not add any oil. Maf was dead in 10k miles with a light coating of the pink oil. Either the maf was too sensitive on that platform or just a case of poor QC with the oiling process from K&N. Ended up being easier to buy dry media.

I also noticed increased silica with oiled cotton gauzed filters. When they were swapped out, the silica went back to normal levels. That told me dirt was getting through easier.
