Seems my 18 with sync 3 doesn't auto turn to night mode. I've got the display settings set on auto mode and auto dim. Every morning though, or nights when I work second shift, I have to hit the gauge brightness switches over by the headlight controls to get the display to dim. I can hit brighter or dimmer, either one, and the screen instantly dims.

Am I doing something wrong in the settings? I don't think my 15 had this issue, not that I noticed anyway

This won’t answer your question with regards to the auto feature working or not, but I keep my SYNC in Night Mode 24/7/365... the normal screen background is just ugly and annoying no matter what time of day.

I went back outside last night to mess with it a little more and was kinda thinking that. Just leave it in night mode.

Yea, I think what happens is the top dash sensor is too sensitive (or sometimes delayed) based on exterior lighting. This is the same sensor that will make your dash cluster illumination change from the default white to any “My Color” colors when outside lighting changes from dusk to dawn (and back). That same sensor seems to also screw up the “auto” illumination of the SYNC display, causing it to bounce from the normal default color setting to night mode (and back) - which as you found out, is an annoyance.

The same illumination issues noted above also occur if you’re entering/exiting a long tunnel, enclosed bridge span or parking garages.

For those needing it, this is how to set SYNC to Night Mode 24/7:
SYNC screen >> Settings >> swipe left to get other icons on menu >> Display >> Brightness = Max >> Mode = Night

I have no problems reading or seeing the display in Night Mode during the day; the key is to max the Brightness.

I have the same annoying problem (18 GT). It seems to be switching to night mode, just never auto dimming (setting enabled). I have the bright LEDs for the interior lights, possibly they are changing the light level detected by the ambient light sensor on the dash. I also changed the startup screen to the GT350 one from the pony, thought that this may be a problem too. Going to try and cover the sensor and see if it still does the same thing, if so, then I think it is a bug. And I even installed the latest available build (October 2019) of Sync 3.0.

Interesting thought. Lemme know if covering it does anything. I guess at least I know I'm not the only one with the complaint.

I will say once I dim using the dash button it stays dim. It's almost like auto dim just simply doesn't work

Exactly, auto dim is garbage.

Tried covering the sensor and a million other things (including covering the autodim sensor on the mirror), but the same problem. I say it is an annoying bug in the software.

Can go to night mode which will make the screen same brightness all the time, but will probably suck a bit during a sunshiny day.
