Lately I've had a couple of S550's come roll the printer BS Generator. And what I have found is...... There's a couple A,B,C tuners out there that don't understand the strategy very well. Here is a bone.................

When you tell a customer you have set the rev limit to XXXX in SCT.... Like so...
rev 1.webp

Make sure you do it here too or its still gonna be set to 6850 regardless of what your keyboard value file ninja self did.

In the old days your average dyno operator could tune any car that rolled up. Today's ECM's are so complex there is no way A, B, C tuners know the s550, copperhead, LSX, Nissan GTR, etc, using SCT and Cobb and HP Tuners software. No way they know it all.

Thats why you got to go with a specialist eTuner or if you have an IQ above 180 you could buy your own version of the tuning software and figure it out yourself.

Nah its more fun being an owner/tuner/ azzhole
There is tons of logic on the Ford ECM that is rather strange. The multi location rev limiter is just the start. Wait until you start tuning mid lock cam phaser VCT.

Who are you guys(Dol and Kris) and what shops do you own/work for?

It's nice to have some tuners being vocal on the board.

I already tuned this car, this was a baseline on what he drove in on.
What combo did the car have? What gains did you have over the other tune?

I'll also go ahead and ask, who tuned it originally?:D

I tune HPTuner, only in person tunes for me, and even then, I pick and choose my cars and customers.

Don't own a shop and don't work for any. I am a self tuner by hobby now. Used to run the R&D department for part development and tuning was a must to make the best parts, but now it's just a hobby.

That's the first time I've ever heard of a rev limiter in multiple locations. Interesting.

Well, there are several things that the Ford ECM does. Lots of tables have cutoffs for the factory 6800 rev limit, including fuel, knock sensors, multiple rev limits that cut fuel based on many variables, like what was originally just mentioned, and a few other tables that stop doing important things after 6800. What I find funny is on the stock tune, the cams lock at the last called out rpm breakpoint for VCT, might I add is 6500 on the intake and 6000 on the exhaust. So for instance, if your revving to 7200 or even 7500+, chances are the car isn't going to like the same IVO, EVC, and amount of overlap within that 1000rpm difference. So, the tuner must change the rpm breakpoints and adjust VCT to work accordingly. Hope people know that too...

That's pretty much how it works for anything I have ever tuned with HPT....the last cell is the value used for anything beyond that.

It wasn't very long ago that the axis' were not editable so enjoy.

Everything I've ever tuned has been setup that way. Rpm breakpoints that can't be adjusted is just stupid lol.

Kris

Have you tested the phasers to 7200? Just curious to see if they still operate at the higher rpms or if their mechanical effectiveness is limited to lower rpm's.
