Hey folks, I installed a custom steering wheel a few weeks back and everything was great after the installation. As a part of the standard installation, you transfer the OEM wiring harness, buttons, and everything else to the new frame.

After the installation, everything worked as intended including the steering wheel buttons transferred over from the original wheel but about a week ago, the buttons stopped working. They still light up normally at night and the paddle shifters work normally, however, the buttons for volume, cruise control, menu, etc. are no longer working. I took the wheel a part to check for crimped or severed wires, but everything looks good.

Any thoughts? I've also tried pulling the battery for like 15 minutes to try to "reset" the system. Not sure what's going on or how to fix it other than a new harness.

I would remove the airbag and all the trim covers then look for pinched or shorted wires. Check for burn marks where something may have shorted and any loose connections. If you find pinched wires check for continuity and repair as needed. I remenber there being a lot of flash metal from the moulding process on mine and I removed it as something like that could cut through the small gauge wiring easily with vibration.

Have you checked your fuses yet? No idea how the buttons are set up with the fuses, but seems like the logical next step if you've already pulled the wheel and looked at the wiring.

Yeah it sounds like I'm going to have to go through the wiring another time. It's tragic that the paddle shifters work, the heated steering wheel works and the lights work, but the buttons just don't seem to be wanting to respond.

I would check the fuses if I had no power to the steering wheel whatsoever, but because there's power for the heated steering wheel and the lighting for the buttons, I'm less worried about it being a specific fuse. There wouldn't be any power at all if it were a fuse I think
