Hi everyone. Posted an intro thread in the Intro section this morning. New owner of a 22 GT premium 6MT PP1, active exhaust. 6k miles.

looking to lightly mod the car while it sits stuck in my driveway on ice. Thinking steeda clutch spring, intake carbon trap removal, engine cover removal. Anyone have any other free/cheap suggestions?

Don't buy the Steeda clutch spring, just take the stock assist spring out and don't look back. There. I just saved you $$$ You'll thank me later.

I have a 22, stock spring seems to be fine. One of the easier manual transmission cars I've ever driven. Drive it a bit and see if you like it. If you remove the carbon trap that may mess with MAF sensor. ECU is programmed for a certain amount of air flow, if you pull the trap out airflow will increase, the computer may not like that. Do some googling on that. Engine cover should come off pretty easily. GDI pumps tend to be noisy. You may experience some additional noise from that. Those covers are primarily there to help keep the noise from the injectors and other mechanical noises a little more pleasant.

Thanks for the advice. I’ve looked up the carbon trap removal, seems the main issue is when people take out the restrictor tube and don’t put it back in.

I can deal with extra noise, my daily driver for years was a 68 mustang.

good advice about driving it first before messing with the clutch.

What do you guys think about adding an intake oil separator? I’m coming from the hemi world where these were very popular.

I changed my clutch spring and really like the steeda spring. Makes the clutch feel more linear and only cost $13 on sale. It took <10 minutes to install.
Can't speak to just removing it completely.
The stock spring makes the clutch easier to push, but it is not a linear feel.

This is absolutely untrue. Remove it with confidence! If your experience is the same as mine, you may notice slight improvement in throttle response. Note that the carbon trap is located in the air filter cover. Anecdotally, the grid-like insert that's located in the intake tube should be left in place, for the risks mentioned. (I have not attempted to tamper with this part; if you remove it and find no problems, let us know.)

Yes. Many of us have installed them (passenger side only) and they work. Under normal driving conditions, they should be checked every few thousand miles and emptied approximately with every oil change or sooner.

If you would like to reduce cabin engine noise slightly, removing the intake sound resonater tube is another inexpensive mod. The expected result is that, in the cabin, engine sounds will be more rearward-focused exhaust in nature rather than artificially produced intake noise.

If you acquire an adapter cable and Forscan software, there are quite a collection of interesting changes that you can make to improve the way that the car works. Mostly subtle things like silencing the seatbelt warning chime, changing the number of turn signal blinks when you bump the lever to pass, and keeping fog lights on with high beams.

If interested, there are some great threads if you search the forum.

Good luck and have fun!

I’m familiar with forscan as I used it on my old f150. Great program. If you have any forscan mod suggestions let me know

Does the sound tube make the cabin significantly quieter? I like the noise as my charger is dead quiet despite the 5.7 hemi.

Just pop 'forscan' into the forum search (title only) and you'll find a wealth of ideas. :)

That's a slick car. I'd install the Navos Gen 5 screen. https://www.americanmuscle.com/navo...HXKc0Opefgh__nb8E6EaArTSEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds
