I like the idea of the new hydraulic hood rods. However my hood, and it's been noted in this forum by several others, is not the easiest to close. I have to lower it about 12-18" above the latch then drop it for it to latch. Do the new hood rods slowly lower the hood all the way down to the latch? Wouldn't this make it harder to close and latch? Anyone with these new rods are you having any issues with the hood closing?

No. Hood shocks don't put much if any upward force when that low.

In addition, when you first open the hood, there is very little upward force supplied. As you lift the hood farther, the struts provide additional lift. You can let go and the hood is raised to its highest position.

If your hood is difficult to close, it is likely that your bumper was installed too high. You'll need to remove the plastic radiator cover and move the hood latch up a few millimeters with a 10mm wrench.

I have standard redline struts - there's light resistance 70% of the way, and then it drops.

Or adjust the rubber stoppers on either side of the hood depending on what the issue is.

I put them on my car and they are great. I just installed mine with no adjustments. Once your get it part way closed I just drop it and latches with no problems so far. Thanks

I had the same problem and did what BlackWidow mentions above.

Just grab the rubber stoppers on left and right side and screw them down a bit until dropping the hood close to contact point closes it easily.

When I first got my GT I had to slam the hood hard to get it to close...so hard I thought it might dent at some point. Adjusting those 2 bumpers down did the trick.

My hood has been difficult to close from the start. Sounds like I should give adjusting the bumpers a try. I added Redline kit this weekend and love it. Easy install and first class product all the way down to the packaging and instruction sheet. I will add a word of caution. Check your hood bolts before you start. The rear bolt on the passenger side of mine was not tight. When I loosened the front bolt to install the Redline bracket the hood moved. It wasn't difficult to get lined back up but...

Just installed my Redline hood struts yesterday and I can tell you closing the hood is not an issue. Awesome product! Very well packaged with great instructions, templates and even includes the step bit for the one hole you need to make in the battery cover.

I will be getting these also in the future.

As with others on the hard time closing the hood subject, its either the rubber stoppers or the latch itself? I'll play with the rubber stoppers tomorrow and see what happens.

Thanks Rubedog!
Installed these yesterday. Work great. Have to lift the hood up about the first third of the way then the hydraulic lifts take over. When closing the hood it still drops nicely from about 12" and closes without a hitch. Very good product.
