That is exactly what I want. Any issues at tracks with the increased volume?
Nope. It's loud at WOT but quiet enough to keep you within track sound limits. Also not loud enough outside of CA for you to be an automatic cop magnet like with the Xtreme catback (I've owned that too).

Resonator delete and H pipe...It will just slightly wake up the exhaust, maybe move it from a 2 to a 3 at normal driving and 2 to a 4 on wide open...makes a bit deeper rumble too. I did a Mitshimoto H pipe, Steeda seems to make a very reasonably priced one.

Crank Ted Nugent - about 4 minutes before you start you loud exhaust car - do this for 14 days - then stop the Nugent and hopefully the neighbors will accept the loud exhaust only and be relieved.

It’s an unfortunate delima. This kind of situation is why active exhaust is worth every penny of the $1200 or whatever it is. Whisper quiet except for a fraction of a second on start then sounds pretty dang loud for a stock exhaust in sport or track mode. I have a Ford Racing X and active exhaust and that’s it. If you could afford an aftermarket one it’s worth it trust me

I'm in a similar boat as you although I've already done some stuff myself. Although I live in a detached house, I still care about my neighbors and I'm old enough to know it's not cool :)

As delivered (From Carmax...I bought it used) it had stock everything but Roush axleback. So I can't say how loud stock is, but the Roush was pretty loud. I really liked the sound of it but wanted even more rasp, so I put in a resonator delete. Unbelievably loud at startup. There is simply no way, ever, that any neighbor would be cool with it. Not even John Force. I made some ABS "mufflers" that I put over the tips when I started it. It worked, but I'd have to sit there idling for a few minutes before the car calmed down and I could take them off before I drove away. Even then, anytime you went over about 25% throttle it got so loud that every person around you would look at you. Made it not fun to drive, could never go WOT.

I welded on some dynomax bullet mufflers (They don't classify it as a resonator) and it got rid of the rasp and was too quiet. But it has now gotten pretty loud again, so I'm okay with it. Cold start is still stupid loud though.

So, after going through all of this, I would say to get a resonator delete and keep your stock mufflers. I think that would do what you wanted. The resonator delete will give you more rasp though. Technically a resonator doesn't quite it down, it just re-shapes the sound, but I can tell you that the resonator really did quiet my car down.

The cold start is really the enemy. There are a few ways you can deal with it:
  • Live with it
  • Get a system as loud as you can tolerate for the first 2 minutes of running it
  • Install an active exhaust, or a DIY version that has a butterfly in the middle of the system. I bought most of the parts to do this, but I changed my mind after I realized that the resonator delete + roush AB was still too loud...
  • Get a tuner (Or tune yourself) to get rid of the cold start. It is very loud because the cams are retarded quite a bit, and the mixture is pig rich. It's done to "light off" the catalytic convertor (Shooting a rich mixture into the cat is a great way to start a little fire in the cat, thereby warming it up). I've been told that Lund and Livernois will tune for it. I don't think a "canned" tune is going to do anything about it because most kids like how loud it is at start.
I'm a huge fan of side exhausts, I might look into building my own in the future. I have to see what the space looks like under the car.

Obligatory post supporting the Corsa Sport Catback option. It's amazing - loud when I want it, quiet when I don't and transforms the V8 sound into something almost exotic.

Also, at this point, Corsa should be paying BMacIL a commission. Salesman of the year.

Any of you guys have experience with resonator delete? I've heard it didn't really affect the volume all that much.
My 19 has the Steeda h pipe on it. It is loud on a cold start and the tone is much deeper overall which is what I wanted. At WOT it sounds good. Especially when I’m getting on it next to a wall/barrier.

It won’t be forever because I’m adding ATAK’s eventually but I had to have a resonator delete on there to give it something for now.

Up until a few months ago I was in a condo, shared walls outside parking etc. Started with stock 18 exhaust, was fine. Moved to stock axle back and FP x pipe. Still fine slightly louder cold start. From there went Corsa Xtreme. Loud cold start but could cruise out of the complex no issues. Graduated to LTH, well that changed everything. Crazy loud cold start, had to drop to reverse immediately after start and idle out just to get by. Added Vibrant 1794s. Calmed down some on cold start and more refined tone. Long story short wish I would have gone Corsa Sport from the beginning. In your situation maybe consider Corsa Touring axleback (same mufflers as the Corsa Sport cat back) but with the stock resonator on. Better tone and more sound than stock but still very contained. Down the road if you want more can drop the resonator and add the Corsa double x which would effectively turn your exhaust into the Sport catback.

Yeah, honestly when I watched the CJPP video for the resonator delete H pipe, I was not impressed. It barely affected sound, but moreso, it made it sound so tinny. When I first got my car I met someone else with a similar car who did a resonator delete X pipe and I wasn't all that impressed. I met someone a few weeks back who had resonator delete X pipe and muffler and it sounded glorious but waay too loud for my living situation.

How involved is getting an active exhaust setup? Where does the valve get installed? Where does the wiring run? Where does the switch get installed?

I was partially avoiding getting anything more than a res/muffler delete because I am debating doing the quad tip valence conversion so I'd need a setup with quad tips at some point. But I'd hope to find a system I like and then go from there but without hearing them in person I'm not sure that will happen.

I'd want more of a V8 muscle car sound than V8 racing/exotic sound personally. Love the sound of older Mustangs.

What is different between 15-17 and 18+ that the resonator delete sounds different?

Mostly, it's a complete different muffler design. The stock 18 mufflers are a bit louder and less tinny sounding.

IMO I would do an axleback by itself with the resonator in place. The resonator calms cold start volume considerably, but with a nice set of mufflers behind it, sounds good. Borla S-type would be my recommendation, given your sound preference. Very nice and deep muscle tone, but won't be crazy loud if you decide to do a resonator delete later.

There is at least one thread on here about adding the active exhaust. It doesn't look like a difficult installation. My Mustang has it (from the factory) and it works great to quietly leave the neighborhood and then open it up for some fun sounds.
