Registered for a track event at Gingerman in Michigan but would like to bleed my brake before the event. Are there any good online instructions to bleed the brake? I thought it is quite straightforward, but do need to be a little careful as a novice such as me.

Thanks!

Why do you feel you need to bleed your brakes? Have you recently replaced any components? If you haven't replaced the master cylinder, the calipers or any lines - I can see no reason why you'd want or need to bleed them.

Most HPDE groups will tell you to make sure your fluid is fresh. It's a precaution. Older brake fluid absorbs moisture over time and it looses some of its temperature resistance, so replacing it is normal procedure for a car that sees track time.

Bleeding either requires two people or a tool assist to make sure air doesn't creep back into the line before you can shut off the bleeder screw. I use a bottle with a check-valve built for this purpose. Also make sure the resevoir doesn't get too low and introduce air into the system that way.

Other than that it's pretty easy. Online tutorials exist.

I change brake fluid every two years. Just like nightmare said, because of the moisture. Bleed in this order. RR,LR,FR.

It helps a lot with two people one pressing the pedal and the other opening and closing the bleeder valve.
Put a clear tube over the bleeder valve, make sure it's the proper length. Dip the other end in some brake fluid in a empty bottle.
1. Person in car pump the pedal a couple of times and then press and hold down the pedal.
2. Person by the caliper opens the valve slowly watch for bubbles and then close it.
3. Person in car release the brake pedal slowly and then reapply again.
Repeat these steps a couple of times until fluid is clear and no air bubbles.
Also check the reservoir fluid level to make sure its not low.
I would also recommend tapping the caliper a couple of times each bleed to loosen any air bubbles that might have trapped in the caliper.

As others have already mentioned, track events can be very harsh on fluids, and a lot of guys move up to a high performance brake fluid that can handle the abuse.

That said, you don't need two people to bleed your brakes. Have a look at this bleeder kit:

Motive Pressure Bleeder

I've used this on a Gen5 Camaro and it works perfectly. The key is to make sure that you follow the proper bleed order as specified by Ford. For example, on the Gen5, there are upper and lower bleeders on the Brembos. You had to follow the bleeding order otherwise you're wasting your time.

The bleeder can also be used on clutch fluid which also gets tons of abuse during track events.

Motive does make this kit for the Mustang but you may have to search Amazon or another retailer to get the right model.

Motive bleeder works great. I just did mine on Sunday. On the front, you bleed the outside first, then the inside, then the outside again, if you have front calipers with two bleeder screws. I used Red Line RL600 brake fluid. It is a 600 dry, 400 wet fluid.

We make brake fluid, and you are spot on ! Moisture is the issue.

What high performance brake fluid would you recommend?

I used the Motive and ended up with a tow to the dealer and a new master cylinder. I suspect I got too much pressure in the system, but can't say for sure. All I know is I'll stick to the manual, 2 person method.

Anyone want to buy one? Only used once. lol
