Hello everyone, I just want to get a few opinions on what people may think could be a contributing factor to my car being all over the road.

I have a 2017 mustang GT performance package with 54k miles. It has fortune auto coilovers, steeda’s upper and lower ball joints, and a bump steer kit.

other than the rear suspension (coilovers) the rear is completely stock, except I know the previous owner but on the Steeda IRS brace.

I will post an alignment spec sheet of what my car currently sits at. It seems like it darts all over the road.

im currently running 19x11s in the rear, 305/35r19 and 19x10 up front, 275/35r19. (Continental Extreme Contact Sports up front, Nitto g2 555s in rear. The front tires are about 16 months old, and the rears are about 2 months old.

it feels like when I do a pull, my car is grabbing every crack and going wherever it wants to, it feels kind of scary. My car also feels like it’s moving side to side ever so slightly on the freeway. It’s hard to be confident driving my car when it feels like I’m going to die. The car is as silent as a mouse (except the roush catback of course) no suspension noises. It is quite bumpy but it seems to have been that way since I’ve owned the car.

I also know my rear camber is kind of crazy, but I have a performance shop fixing it next week hopefully it solves my issue.

another thing to note is I know my thrust washer is bad on my driver side rear wheel. It’s making a clicking noise. I just haven’t gotten around to replacing it. (There’s no play or noises coming from the hub but I don’t think it’s broken and neither did the last shop I took it to.) I’m kind of at a loss here. It used to drive so well and I don’t really know anymore. Tires are super expensive in this size for me to throw $600 on two tires for it to not fix the issue. Any help or insight would be handy. I’m hoping my alignment getting done will improve the handling drastically.

Inspect the rear bushings (LCA/toe rod especially).

Stuff was especially dicey for me when the LCA wasn’t torqued fully as well. I’d suggest making sure everything is torqued and “clocked” properly.

Alternatively - get the car measurements read at another rack. Your current readings don’t really explain any strange drive-ability issues.

That thrust washer might be the issue as well. It’s literally there to take up the slack between the axle/knuckle. If it’s mashed you might be getting small amounts of movement at speed!

I’d inspect and torque bushings first though lol.

Can I just take the thrust washer out and leave it out? Or does it need to be replaced? I know Ford has since updated the design so it’s thicker now and less prone to breaking? Might give it a try. What do you think?

It’s a few hours to replace, I replaced with the revised thicker washer. If you have the noise it’s worth the $15 gamble to silent the car.!

@WildHorse can advise on his experience leaving it out. I’ve never done so.

I find high amounts of rear camber make the car feel weird, if compared to a straight axle rear.

Might try a bit more toe in in the front. With your wide tires this might help, try .1 degree each side

Yeah I have replaced the driver side wheel hub rear already before but didn’t know about the washer so I left it in. It took me about 4 hours to do it the first time bc I was inexperienced but I’m sure it would be much faster now… annoying process but I’d prefer to stay away from having to do it again if I can avoid it…

Right. I mean that’s my post, just trying to get more engagement to see if anyone has anymore ideas.

im not sure if I should sell my rear tires and get continentals to match the front, or what.
It’s so exhausting sometimes lol
Ugh, sorry I didn't realize that was you, just remembered a similar issue.
People far more knowledgeable than I are suggesting things like replacing that thrust washer. I'd try those before spending more on tires. Avoiding known needed repairs is only going to leave you guessing.

Have you looked into a bump steer kit from steeda? Heard this solved a lot of that front tire loose feeling and grabbing every groove on the road Haven’t had a chance to order mine but it’s definitely my next mod

I’m not trying to sound like an asshole on purpose here, but my suspension mods are listed as one of the first things and yes it’s on there. Highly recommend. I think my issue is something else though.

Absolutely! I gotta work up the patience to replace my wheel thrust washer here soon.. it’s just so dang hot in AZ and it’s quite a few hour process to do and it just hasn’t been easy. It’s definitely the first on my to do list besides the rear diff bushing inserts..

You have A LOT of camber in the rear compared to the front. 🤔
