Seems silly, also identifying the vehicle with a gender is awkward. A female coworker always refers to my car as 'she' and 'her' when she is talking about it and it is thoroughly confusing.

No naming of the house ect, but vehicles have always been named. From boats to planes.

All of my vehicles have names. My GT350 name is in my Sig.

You should let her know that your car is genderqueer/non-binary and prefers "they/them" pronouns.

They already have names. Your mailbox is named mailbox, your house is named house, and your wallet is named broke after mods to the Mustang.

But yes, it's good luck to name your car, truck, boat, etc. My car's name is Car McCarface.

Hmm.... People name boats all the time. Boats are usually referred to as "she" but some cultures refer to them as "he." I grew up with named boats, so it doesn't seem weird to me. However, naming a car just seems silly. Don't ask me why I see cars and boats differently; I don't know . . . . :-)

I guess its the same reason people name ships like "Queen Mary" or "Mayflower". I name my cars just because I thought everyone did it.

In a way I guess since your car is almost like an extension of yourself some may feel the need to name it. You spend a lot of time with your car (like a GF), people associate you with your car (like a friend), your car goes where you go (like a pet), your car is highly functional (like a horse), etc. Also it might be sexual too, that’s always what I thought it was growing up…guys giving their cars names of sexy women so that they can say “I’m gonna ride Daisy tonight”. I’ve never seen anyone name a house/apartment, it’d be kind of weird.

I don't name anything that's not alive, unless it comes with a name, then I just call it that.

No offense to anyone who does it, but it seems kind of dorky to me. I mean, I love my 60 inch TV and my cell phone and spend alot of time with them, but I don't name them. I understand that it stems from naming boats, but it just seem strange with a car IMHO.

It's a car, a thing. I enjoy my car and love it, but I do not name it or refer to it as if it has a gender. It's a car :)
