Nail in tire

So I think I already know my answer, but I thought I'd get some other opinions.

Found my driver rear tire getting low on air, and checked last night to find a nail in it. It's really close to the sidewall. I'm leaning towards a new tire, but take a look and see if there's any chance it's fixable....

Definitely new tire. The nail is in the shoulder of the tire, one of the highest temperature parts of the tire due to the constant flexing from rolling down the road.

Nope. There's no saving this one. I had a similar issue with a tire on my truck and everyone I took it to said they could not in good conscience fix it. You're better off replacing it.

FYI for those of you with a "Discount Tire" shop near you. If you take your car to them you can get their warrantee added to your tires for a very small fee (25 ish per tire depending on cost of new tire). The tire needs to be relatively new. It does not matter if they sold the tires to you they just have to be able to get the tires.

I have exclusively used them for 15 years and will drive 50-60 miles to use them. You get road hazard, manufacturers defect, free rotation/repair, and a free replacement (cost of new warrantee) tire. I have taken the last 4 vehicles I bought to them and added the warrantee to the tire. I have covered the cost of this by having to use the warrantee on multiple occasions, not to mention free rotation whenever I wanted to.

I had some Pirelli's that came as OE on my F-150. I had 3 that had some defects after about 25,000 miles. I in turn got 4 new tires (diff brand) for the price of one (the one without the defect) and the price of 4 warrantees (around $100). Same goes for the nail. If it needed replacement it would only cost you the amount of new warrantee on new tire.

This and they have some great prices and will match if found somewhere else.

what Tazdevil is saying is true and also many forget that some tires come with road hazard warrantee for X amount of thread life on tire. you should check that out.

Do what Taz said see if you can warranty it , the tire looks new and fresh
