My wonderful wife, Mandy purchased a one to one experience day at Silverstone and all I can say is how educational and entertaining the whole day was.

The day started of with a 07:30 departure from home just south of Oxford so not a long journey but I wanted to stop to top up the tank and grab a light breakfast. We arrived at Silverstone an about 08:25 and made our way around the outer perimeter road and bumped into a guy who works there and asked directions. He gave them and then said "5 litre? I said yeah. He replied oh enjoy your sideways day!"

We then drove to the correct building and found my instructor for the day, Chas was his name and I can't recommend the guy enough. You will see why in the rest of this post. We had a safety brief and then I signed my life away. Chas said he would take my car out for two gentle laps to show me around and to get a feel of the cars abilities.

We entered the circuit and after a few corners to my instructors delight the cones had been set up for the complete F1 circuit instead of the international one, Bonus 1.

We then came off for me to get into the drivers seat, Of course I was nervous but Chas was a diamond bloke who talked me though everything and gave me confidence all day long. After about 20-30 minutes track time we would come off for about the same amount of time to give the car a chance to cool down and to talk though my performance (good or bad). As the morning progressed I was making fewer and fewer mistakes and by 12:00 we had to stop for lunch and to pop to the local BP and fill the car back up.
I've had the car for about 6 week now and covered just over 2000 miles averaging about 20.8 mpg but on the track we were averaging just over 8.0! It was completely bonkers to get the 50 mile range left warning going off with half a tank of fuel left. On the whole tank I covered 101 miles...

So back to the track after lunch and there was not another car on the track, I had the place to myself!

I was getting faster and faster as I made less mistakes and reached 135mph at the end of the long straight!

I even gave line lock a go and Chad cracked up with laughter as the smoke was building up around the car.

The day has really opened my eyes to a chap who hasn't driven a rear wheel drive car with so much power and for a 2 ton car I was completely surprised how well it handles... I'll post some you tube links later when I've uploaded the clips...

It was absolutely brilliant,

Looking at the tyres after the morning session I could see that they were showing signs of increased ware on the edges especially on the front and also a kind of stepping effect becoming apparent on the tread blocks.

And on inspection after a go with the line lock I would say I have about 4-5 mm of tread left. As far as the brake pads go they look fine to me...

I'd go again tomorrow if I could...

Nicw one.

45mins round Silverstone was good enough but a day with an instructor must have been amazing. Thank for the right up.

Sounds bloody marvellous! Never having done a track day what's the deal with insurance? Is that covered by the cost of the session or do you take it our separately?

Sounds awesome buddy. :)

The stepping on the front tyres and wear on the edge is indicative of not enough front camber for track use which if your running stock alignment from factory is the case as they come with around -0.5to-1.0 front camber, whereas on a dry track with road tyres you ideally need around -2.0 :)

Not something to worry about because on the road you don't want to run those kind of camber levels, won't handle as good and then the tyre will wear more on the inside edge.

Totally amazing you got full GP circuit, must of being serious fun, any spins? :D

I'd never done one before either, It was the smartest thing I've done with the car. And I'm a firm believer now that it might stop any stupid moments, Yes I drove really fast but the truth is its all about being smooth and kind of flowing on each part of the course...

I arranged specialist track day insurance though Adrian Flux...
