Greetings all, great to be part of another online community. I have spent a bit reading through the site learning more about my car and getting ideas and l appreciate the effort that some of you take to share your knowledge. This isn’t going to be a crazy build thread but more a point of reference to someone who might just be a more average guy like me. I turn my own wrenches and l am not afraid to go for it at least
About a year ago l began my search for another Mustang. As a previous owner, l knew quite well what l was looking for based on both experience and my taste in styling. I like understated looks but all the performance parts packed in. My choice…. a 2019 Bullitt.
My first car was a fully loaded mineral gray 2002 GT which l went crazy with mods on. 3.90 gears after 2 weeks, then full bolt ons, complete suspension, brakes, and finally a fully built motor that l put together myself. It was fast(ish) and fun on both the track or street. Lookswise, I traded my trunk lid for one with no spoiler, did the mach 1 grill delete/lip spoiler and eventually added tires and rims. l just never managed the power adder it needed to complete the package. Becoming a single Dad with full custody to a 4 year old simply rearranged priorities.
Fast forward to today and now l have the time, money and desire to do it all again. There is a big difference though, l want a more conservative setup. Rather than adding part after part like l did the first time, l am just going to attack things l find lacking, improve them, and see where it leads me.
l drove the car for the first few weeks and really got to know it well and what jumped at me first was that smooth rubbery steering wheel. I work with my hands and tactile feel is one of my pet peeves l guess. Looking at options l landed on something simple, but better shaped. One hour and minimal swearing later (stupid airbag lol)and l had the improvement l was looking for
Next one may be a bit controversial but l found there to be a lack of rubber on the road. The limit is smooth and predictable but simply too low. If it were all about performance, l would stay 19”, but my local roads are great and l like the looks of big rims, so l went 20”. Now is where l will lose the purists….l do not like black rims so I went bronze to match the gorgeous paint of the car.
20x10 +35 front 285/35-20
20/11 +50 rear 315/30-20
Both are as close as l could get to stock diameter for the size l wanted. They go on this weekend and l will update with pics soon. I will definitely drive a while before l decide on springs as l am sure bigger rubber will expose other weaknesses in the chassis and help finalize just how much drop l want. For now l am letting Magnaride do it’s thing. After that it goes strait to forced induction and we shall see what can of worms that opens up
So, there you go, a glimpse into my thought process and something to make your legs fall asleep on the can. I appreciate any feedback, suggestions, or input you may have.
