Is there any reason preventing someone from doing a full 3 inch exhaust so that its 3 inches from turbo to tip? And wouldn't that make the most sense? I see most people and manufacturers do 3 inch dps with exhausts that go from 3 inches to 2.5/2.25 and always wondered why.

All of the manufacturers are doing 3" where the pipe is single. Once it's dual they go to 2.5/2.25 because it's dual. Think about it, exhaust going through 2 pipes that are 2.5 inches are actually flowing better than exhaust flowing through a single 3". So it would be impractical and a waste to do dual 3 when the exhaust can only flow as fast as the first single more restrictive part.... Just my guess. If it was single exhaust from turbo all the way to tail, then for sure it would make sense to do 3" throughout.

I bought both of the MAP CAI, which I just installed today, and it's god damn load. I love this thing! And also my flowmaster exhaust tips came in today as well with a 3" outlet.

Now I'm thinking. The CAI is pretty loud and the straight pipe will be loud as well when I get it done. Don't you face this issue where the sounds of both the CAI and exhaust will sound terrible? I'm also considering just cutting the tips and welding the exhaust tips and leaving the muffler alone due to this potential issue.

What do you think I should do based on your experience?

Sounds very similar to this one

If a car gets an exhaust "mod" that makes it sound like a pos with a muffler that fell off...then I don't get it.
NASCAR? No, more like trailer park.

I think this is extra loud to convertible owners with the top down. I floored it going through a few tunnels, long underpasses and HOLY HELL, I felt like I was at race track!
Got my muffler delete done this morning at http://www.automufflers.org/

Nice place... great people. $140 total (price + plus tip to the guy who did the work, Rob)

Stopped to get gas on the way home and guy is like "Is that the new mustang? Looks and sounds nice."

First time someone said the car sounded nice....

I think it sounds very nice now... glad I did this. Not loud at all... even with the top down it does not bother me...

It sounds much, much, much better than stock at start-up and giving it gas. On the hwy when cruising you can't hear it (with top down, I could not). I'm going out later to do more testing, with top up, etc.

If you can find someone to do this cheaply, I'd do it instead of getting a full muffler kit. I was willing to take the chance and eat the 140 if it sounded like crap.

Thanks for pushing this Wes!!!!!

As a rub to a local business, Kelly's performance quoted me $450 to remove the mufflers. I could not believe it... I told the guy this was a $180 job at most and he said "okay, $250". Hated I took off work to drive to their business for a quote. http://kpkustoms.com/

Hey jtmat, are you planning on putting mufflers on or just exhaust tips? Get a video going I'm sure we all want to hear it!

I had the stock mufflers cut off and had the guy weld an extension pipe and factory tips on it. If I do anything, I might put a muffler where the resonator is located and call it a day.

I'm almost afraid to do anything now since it drives nicely... no drone. I'll keep it like this for a while a see if this grows on me. Not sure any muffler will satisfy me a 100% on this car since it is a 4. Very happy with it though... nice car.

Here are some vids... hope they come out okay... they are on OneDrive:

I just want the assurance that it won't be too loud. I have 5" tips waiting to be installed and every shop I go to will tell me it will be too loud. I want to install it, but in the same time I want to make sure I'm not leaving the garage sounding like a civic with a fart can installed.

I also thought about just installing the tips without the muffler delete.

After riding around with it all weekend, I more than likely will add some mufflers and keep the resonator.

Not sure I like the no muffler sound for everyday driving. Sounds nice reving it up... But I don't do that much in an auto.

Might order the thrush welded mufflers just to quite things down back there a small bit and give it a cleaner sound.

Still thinking this through....

Yeah I know...I'm just keeping it as an option just in case I may not want to go with the muffler delete / straight pipe route. I want to ask people for their opinions before I go with it!

I had resonators and mufflers deleted and it sounded great, and when you don't give it the gas and at cruising its pretty darn quiet.

My father-in-law has a sawzall so I just went to home depot and picked up a blade and had both mufflers cut off in about 10mins lol. Reason I did it is because I had a set of Borla S Types coming my way but come to find out they are on back order. With that being said I've been riding around with the mufflers cut off..it sounds nice but I'm not to sure the sound is for me there is defiantly some drone at low cursing speeds. Oh well Corsa Extreme Catback comes in this week

Do you have drone because you cut them off and left them? The exhaust is dumping under your car? Good luck with that... :D

All jokes aside, I ended up purchasing the Magnaflow 10415. From what I understand, this is the same mufflers used in their competition series.

Not sure if the tips will fit.... but I'll see.

You have the pipes ending at your axle, that's why.

Yeah I got ahead of myself and cut off the mufflers..and the exhaust didnt come. I was wanting to go to get a muffler delete welded but said screw it ill just wait for the corsa. It is bad to have pipes ending at your axles?
