My order for a 2019 Mustang GT Premium PP1 has been delayed since 25 Feb. I got word from Ford today that it is officially delayed due to ... are you ready for this?

It has been delayed due to steering wheel parts non-availability. Apparently, there was a strike in Mexico and they can't get steering wheels or parts for steering wheels!

I told the dealership to have them send it anyway. I can get an aftermarket wheel for $250! Of course, they won't. This would be funny if it were not for the fact that this is MY car.

I'd drive it home with a socket and breaker-bar if they'd send it.

Good news is that cars built without wheels have started shipping over the last few weeks. About 80% of people in another thread who've reported being held for a steering wheel have seen their cars flip to "Awaiting Shipment" at a minimum. Multiples are in transit, and several have already been delivered.

I appreciate it. Really, the cheers was genuine. I really hadn't seen the thread and it's sort of nice to know I am not alone is being dangled about by Ford.

To give them their just due ... when is the last time we heard about a strike in Mexico? But really, make some steering wheels here in the USA and ship the cars, idiots!

Mine was ordered back in 11/2018. Still waiting but site shows in transit to arrive early May. We’ll see.

You and I are in this steering wheel-less boat together - kind of. My original vehicle was ordered on 10/20/18 and not scheduled to be built until 2/19/19 - which oh how lucky was a week during the time when they did builds without steering wheels which personally I think was a stupid greedy move by Ford to keep things moving. Now my original ordered car and a back-up one exactly like it ordered by the dealer (to see if that one would get done quicker - nope) are still in production with only info being the “late April” notice from the tracking website. Ford Performance folks chat or by phone won’t touch my inquiries with a 10-foot pole. Now, my dealer recently came through for me with an almost exact replacement vehicle which I immediately purchased. However, my original order is still stuck in neverland without a steering wheel. I think there is another shortage now and the cars without wheels will remain sitting. Hubby told me last night that more trade issues with Mexico are pending so who knows what that will do to the cars that are currently stuck without as well as future orders??

This situation just stinks like a cow pasture. First it was the issues with the manual transmissions shift forks breaking from using an inferior material like cast aluminum. Then the engine ticks and cylinder wall scoring which has been reported with great frequency. All with increased MSRPs that started with the 2018 MY. I’ve owned Mustangs as my only car since 1991. Been a member of our local MCA affiliate club since 1993 and MCA. To have this happen with Ford is something I have never seen before and for those in here like myself that have been loyal to the Ford brand, it’s like getting thrown in the cow pasture to swim with the brown blind mullets. If mine does not arrive in May I’m pulling the plug on the order. The local dealer is also reluctant to refund my deposit, which is making me more salty as well as hinting that X Plan pricing is not available for special factory orders. Hmmmm.......this is not going to end well folks.

It is very good but highly unfortunate to hear these words from a loyal Mustang owner. Times have surely changed - and not for the better it seems.

Your dealer being reluctant to refund your deposit is ridiculous. My dealer kept reassuring me “there is no scenario in which you will lose your deposit” which made me feel a little better.

Yeah unfortunately the dealers here in Hawaii play hardball because we are a captive audience. The other part is whether the dealers here will honor my MCA membership and give me X plan pricing. According to Ford Partners website doing the same order I did back last year, I would get $1,500 cash back incentive, putting the price at 42k plus tax and license for an Oxford White 401A PP1 with the Showstopper Red interior like my first Mustang, 1991 LX 5.0 Oxford White with Scarlet Red interior.

The other alternative is another competing dealer has a 2019 Bullitt Hyland Green, Recaros magnaride optioned for 54k OTD. I’m thinking of using my 2008 Saleen as a trade in to get the Bullitt. I’m really torn on this one.......

Lol - my philosophy is a car on hand is worth two stuck on the Flat Rock plant parking lot without steering wheels lol. Get your deposit back & go for the green Bullitt- you would not be the only one on these threads to do that!

That's why we call them "stealerships". My dealer specifically told me about joining the MCA and getting X-Plan pricing, so maybe some dealers are willing to do it on special orders and some aren't. My guy (who's no longer there!) only told me he can't go below invoice on special orders.

However, I assume a deposit is consideration for the risk of ordering a car in a configuration that may be harder for them to sell if you decide not to take it. Like a security deposit covers cleaning an apartment if you leave it dirty. Which makes it strange why my guy didn't ask for one. Maybe he knew he was almost out of there and didn't give a flying f. Makes me wonder if mine will end well either.

That suprises me that the X Plan doesn't work on factory orders. I don't know if it's local or not but that's how I'll be getting mine. X Plan on my factory order.

I had a dealer accept X-plan pricing plus incentives for a factory order. I used that number as my starting point for my negotiations with the rest of the pack.
