Yeah, I averaged 24 going to and coming back from Destin, FL from Columbia, SC. About the same as my last BMW that had 230ish hp. I'm happy. Not on extended highway trips you aren't.
I've made 4 round trips between Detroit and Chicago since I've owned the car, so over half of my 4300 miles is cruising at 75-80 mph. The other half is commuting to work, errands and the occasional fun drive (plus one autocross day). That gets me to 23.5 average overall. If you drive a GT and get over 21mpg I'm passing judgement on u

See my post above. I've averaged 23.5 mpg with about 65-70% of that being some kind of highway or freeway. What sort of MPG can you expect with 3:31 gears? Looking to get into a base GT, and want to know sort of what my wallet should expect.
That's pretty good. I'd be very happy with that. Is that with a little bit of spirited driving mixed in once in a while? (I understand you autocross, just not sure how much that throws off the average) Also, I have very little knowledge on this, but I thought skipping gears was bad for the engine / transmission? If not, which gears are good to skip? I'm assuming 2nd and 4th.See my post above. I've averaged 23.5 mpg with about 65-70% of that being some kind of highway or freeway.
I wouldn't expect anywhere near that considering the other posts by gt owners in this thread. He seems to be the exception not the rule and by quite a big margin of difference. That's pretty good. That's fair. I've seen it ranging from 18 to 24 for the 3:31 gears, and I'd be pretty happy with an average anywhere in that range. I don't drive my cars like a maniac for the most part, there's the odd place on my commutes that beg for some throttle and I oblige, but I'm usually a pretty tame driver all things considered. I average about 26 on my v6 currently, and I know I'll average less in the v8, just want to know it won't be half less.I wouldn't expect anywhere near that considering the other posts by gt owners in this thread. Yeah I probably go for a spirited drive 1-2 nights a weekThat's pretty good. I'd be very happy with that. Is that with a little bit of spirited driving mixed in once in a while? Gonna ask you another question because I'm not really familiar with some of this, but wouldnt you want to be revving higher (say 3K) to skip a gear? Otherwise you'll just get close to stalling, no?Yeah I probably go for a spirited drive 1-2 nights a week
Skipping is no harm at all. You just have to make sure you let the revs drop appropriately and then the synchros will have no trouble. I usually go from 1st to 3rd, 3rd to 5th/6th, depending on the speed.
