Mustang Winter Storage Questions

I drive mine year round so I’m not a huge help, but my neighbor down the street garages his S197 for winter. He leaves his hood open, says he’s never had rodent problems in the engine bay with the hood open (he did used to close the hood and cover the car and had rodent problems).

Also, I would not pull the car out on a warm day just to run it for a few minutes. you’re just introducing condensation that won’t fully evaporate if you don’t get the car all the way up to temp. You’re better off just letting it sit all winter. If you’re going to get it out on a warm day, drive it for a good 20-30 minutes so everything heats up. Just my $0.02 on that.

He covers the rest of the car, just leaves it rolled up at the bottom of the windshield so he can leave the hood open. Plenty of folks put the hood down and fully cover the car and use other rodent deterrents. That’s just how he does it and hasn’t had rodent problems since he started doing it that one. Just another idea is all.

Another thing I saw and am curious about - the car is obviously tuned will having the battery out for 3-4 months mess anything up with the ECU? Only reason I ask is someone said it in another forum and I cannot prove/disprove it

No, it does nothing. I’ve had mustangs for 20 years, I’ve always pulled the batteries, never had a single issue. My car now is modified and tuned, still no issues the last 2 years. Still OEM battery.

So I’m putting the car away this weekend - the garage doesn’t have electric so I wanted to confirm one last time - pulling the battery and bringing inside won’t mess up anything with the car come spring?
