"Mustang Ecoboost".... WHY?

Anyone else disappointed they decided to go with this generic name for the 4 cyl?? I was really hoping for something unique (or even ST or SVO) and not shared with other Ford vehicles. I can't imagine decades from now the "Mustang Ecoboost" is gonna be a heralded name like the SVO even if it had legendary performance...... IMO they dropped a good marketing opportunity here.

I'm guessing they want to continue to drive the whole "green" thing and the 'ecoboost' name is their marketing name for the turbo engines with good fuel economy right? Probably decoded to stick with that just to avoid confusion etc. I imagine they will move a lot of these and it will not be a specialty niche vehicle in the Mustang lineup.

As far as badging goes it's just what we've seen: the running horse on the rear and if you're knowledgeable of the wheel combos those are really the only clues it's an eco right? No other special badge?

Nah, this has been hashed through before. The 'SVO' was a very special, limited edition Mustang. The ecoboost is nothing special. It's simply positioned as a high volume mid-tier option below the GT. I would not want to water down the SVO heritage by giving the turbocharged model of the S550 that name.

Ecoboost already has the cache in the general market as being high tech, powerful and fuel efficient... which is exactly what Ford wants people to think of when they think of the ecboost 4-cyl powered mustang. It makes perfect sense

I get the whole "green" thing but you can market the good MPG and still give it different badging. Not like anyone is buying a Mustang to be "green" anyway. It's just a bonus, and they can sell more cars with a cool and unique badge.

Ok understand the SVO has history and it's not the quite the same even sharing the 2.3 in common. My point is really they should have given it a unique badge/moniker.... now the only one unique to Mustang is GT... and I bet the 4 cylinder market is going to be huge in a few years. It would be cool (for enthusiasts) to have a cool unique name to go along with it. I can't see people getting too excited saying they are part of the Mustang Ecoboost club.

At least it doesn't have an ecoboost badge on it. ;)

Honestly, I have a feeling the V6 option will go away at some point, which will then leave two regular production models, like there has been to this point... the GT and the 'base' model which will happen to be using an ecoboost engine. At that point there wouldn't really be any reason for the ecoboost version to have some special name.

I can see a lot of ST badges making their way onto these EB Mustangs.

Right on. The SVO was the top of the line in every measure from performance to handling to ergonomics. It was a complete car, with attention paid to every detail. And it was positioned and priced well above the lowly GT, which was saddled with the miserable TRX tires, 4-bolt rims, small front discs, rear drums, and terrible seats. I had a GT before and after my SVO, and they were just lousy in comparison. I open tracked all three and the GTs would blow thru bearings and rotors with ease. The SVO was the first Mustang in my long line back to '67 that would not only last for a track weekend at the Glen, but would dominate. Ford didn't do anything like that again until '96 (the 94/5 SVT engines being particularly lame, as well as the handling). If it had continued just a year more, it would have had the new DOHC 4 cylinder engine and continued evolving all around. Ford engineers had a lot planned then, and in the same timeframe were also planning the move over to MN12.

The EcoBoost is a well thought out economical car for North Americans, and an all-around well-rounded sporting coupe for Europeans and the rest of the world. Ford has done an excellent job on it, and attention to details such as an extra large radiator on it's performance pack option show they are paying attention to the requirements of the rest of the world. It'll be a good choice for people who don't want the nose-heavy V-8 (remember that the SVO dominated for many years in autocross), a great car all-around, without the penalty of the V-8 fuel economy (or CO2).

My only thought that an EB with Performance Package would qualify as a special enough edition to earn that badging. With the 2.3L EB, it's going to be lighter, and it's getting all of the PP goodies of the GT sans 6-piston calipers and 3.73's.

Doesn't get the bracing or the larger rear tires that the GT does either, but maybe with its slightly lower weight and power doesn't need them as much. But I understand your point.

By your logic, the GT+PP should get special badging as well?

I think the 'look' of the EB+PP with its special wheels and such should be unique enough that most will recognize it as different than the base model.

Well glad I'm not the only one who thinks Ford can come up with a better name:

http://jalopnik.com/mustang-ecoboost-is-a-terrible-name-lets-come-up-with-1575943124

Today we learned that the turbocharged four-banger 2015 Ford Mustang will be called the Mustang EcoBoost. Besides the people who work in Ford's marketing department, no one seems happy about this name. Let's make a better one.

There's a lot of problems with the name Mustang EcoBoost. It's too jargon-y, it's too wimpy for a muscle car, it makes the Mustang sound like a hybrid, it doesn't fit with the other turbo performance cars in the Ford lineup, and it doesn't suit what the turbo Mustang is apparently supposed to be: a high-strung, high-performance coupe with copious turbocharged power and glorious rear-wheel drive.

But enough criticism — it's time to do what Jalops do best, and that is help. Help with crazy, awesome, ultimately untenable ideas. I'll get things started:

-Mustang STP

-Mustang SVOP

-Mustang 2.3TP

-Mustang TurboP

-Mustang Turbo SP

-BOOSTangP

-Mustang PSIP

-Mustang EcoSuckP

-Mustang EcoBlargP

-Mustang FuelEconomyLOLP

-Mustang WRX STIP

-Mustang Lancer Evolution MRP

-Mustang Omni GLHP

-Mustang GTS-TP

-Mustang 280ZX TurboP

See, Ford? Any of those would work better than Mustang EcoBoost. Just wait until you see what the Jalopnik commentariat comes up with. They probably haven't even been guzzling paint thinner all day like I have.
