Does anyone know what this half circle is in the lower half of the engine block on the driver side? I was wondering if it has a reason or just a design feature?

How are you getting the image - scoping it or has the engine been dismantled? And can you provide a better pic? It seems your showing a split image?

The cylinder head would normally be in place over the block area shown in your photo ... so your pic isn't best describing what you are asking or how you managed to get the pic.

I'm talking about the machinned half circle in the lower part of the block. Look at first picture. The bottom picture is just a picture of the block I found online.

My guess would be it was machined in one step to be used in a later step. It's likely either a hold point for a jig, or a 'measure to' point for a machining process or quality checks..
