In the process of installing an exedy clutch and flywheel in my 15 gt. Over half of the way there, but I'm being held up by two things. First, I am having a bear of a time getting the transmission to fully slide back all the way into the pilot bearing. Clutch is aligned within the pressure plate, triple checked. Splines are engaging but I have another inch to go or so before the transmission fully seats. I have read that the clutch must be pushed down in order to allow the transmission to go all the way in? (true/false) I also installed a new slave cylinder and braided clutch line, I bled the slave in a tub of brake fluid prior to install and fastened it in along with the new line. However, when I pump the clutch it goes straight for the floor and doesn't return. I have fluid in the master and the clutch master is functioning properly. I appreciate any help as I am absolutely regretting this job :headbonk:

First, check the line for the clutch that goes to the brake master reservoir to ensure it's locked in all the way. Then, you'll have to pump the clutch pedal manually with your hand for quite a while until it starts priming and finally works... after finishing your install.

As for having to press the clutch to slip in a transmission, I've never heard of that. I've only done two clutches/manual transmissions and one auto and I've had to give each a pretty hefty heav-ho to get it all the way in there.

okay so the clutch pedal issue can wait until after I get the trans in is what I'm understanding. Now to figure out how to jam this transmission in there without bending the clutch disc or messing something else up. Ive been wrestling with it for an hour here and there over the past few days, its extremely hot out this week and I'm doing it on stands. I would think it would just slide in like the alignment tool would

Make sure the angle of the trans is the same as the angle of the engine. When u get the angles lined up right it will slide in,sounds like u are through the clutch disc already.

cjponyparts published a video on an RXT install. They make it look easy. Although they do have the benefit of a lift. They do mention don't force it.

The fact you are doing this on stands in that heat wave is commendable. F that! Cool down is coming.

Finally got it through, I was getting hung up on the dowels, I had to get it right up to the dowels and use my legs to push from the back while pulling down on the long tubes to get the angle right. My body is destroyed :)

Its always the dowels. I've always had to use a little bit of sand paper to scrub the gunk off the dowels and out of the locator holes before I try to put it back in. On a very new and clean car (shop cars used for install videos) its not really a problem but if you have some miles in different weather they can use a little bit of cleaning.

Well done! The experience of finally getting any part you've been wrestling with to go back in is akin to finally having a sneeze after it's threatened for a while or taking a piss when you've been holding it in for ages.

Disbelief/Bliss/Excitement/Relief all at the same time! :D
