MT82 3rd and 4th Gear Failure

I have a 2018 GT Premium PP1 with the manual and lost 3rd and 4th gear today at about 74,000 miles. I have an appointment at a local Ford dealer to have them look at it this week and an aftermarket warranty which should pay for needed repairs.

My question is what else should I have them replace/inspect while they have the tranny out? Clutch, throw-out bearing, and flex plate?

It would definitely be a good idea to replace the clutch, flywheel and slave cylinder. I would also have them replace the rear seal as well. You’d hate to have them do all that work and not replace a seal with 74K miles on it because it developed a leak shortly thereafter. That wound be more money, as everything would have to come back down, in order to get to it.

If the tranny work is covered under warranty, you’re good there. The clutch and other items will be on you though, so be prepared for that.

That sucks you lost 3rd and 4th. Any prior symptoms or did it just crap out? I agree w/ NGOT8R, a lot of the expense is labor just to drop the transmission and if warranty is covering that you might as well replace the wearable parts: clutch, pressure plate, flywheel, throwout bearing, pilot bearing, rear main seal, slave cylinder (maybe). Don't forget new flywheel and clutch bolts as they are one time use according to Ford. Probably looking at $1k at least in parts alone for new OE for all of this. 74k miles shouldn't be that much for these parts, but this would be the best opportunity to replace things.

Been thinking about a short shifter? This would be the time to have it installed.

Thanks for the responses. I was also contemplating an MGW short throw shifter.

As for symptoms, not really. I felt some driveline slop/clunk when shifting at high RPM's into 3rd. But, never really had problems shifting into any gears. (No lockout or grinding)

An OEM clutch and flywheel was over $2k when I had my slave cylinder die last year.

I think I paid $2300 for my Ram Pro Street cerametallic twin disc. I mentioned replacing the rear seal. I purchased the MMR billet rear seal plate and seal combo. The seal looks to be of a much higher quality than the OEM. One more thing that would be a good idea to replace while the tranny is out is the crank position sensor. You’ll see it in the pic with the billet rear seal plate at the
1 o’clock position.
