Its basically just an updated version of the existing S197 GT350, which I happen to love. The only problem I have here is the little fogs in the grille, looks weird, also grille needs a snake or something other than the running pony, and lastly I'm not sure rally stripes work on this car. I guess we'll find out.
I like the front splitter, don't mind the hood (it's okay, not great), hate the side scoop, meh on the painted rocker panels, dislike that they left the little bit of black plastic on the sides of the rear bumper and can't stand the rear spoiler.
I don't mind a throw back style and it's not a BAD rendering...but the whole thing just looks pieced together as an afterthought rather than a new design for a new generation of the long running stang.
I agree with TT that the side vent should be frenched. Something that adds to the style and function in a subtle way not hideously obvious like the one rendered.
Yeah, the render does seem a bit slapped together. It doesn't even include quad-tipped exhaust, which is almost certain to be on it based on recent history (GT500/Boss) and the various mules that have been spotted.
No point in putting fog lights in the grille while leaving the original fogs in place. Also, we've seen spy shots of the side vents just behind the front wheels, not in front of the rears.
Agree that it feels thrown together. As if they just added a bunch of Mustang cliches without thinking through the engineering.
If they were going to add fogs to the grille, they should have at least swapped out the original fogs for brake ducts or something like that. Also, adding the body colored louvers to the rear quarter window makes that back end look very large in the side views. Not doing it for me. Hopefully Ford pays a bit more attention to detail with theirs. Honestly, I expect better from Motor Trend.
This is just a waste of time.. it doesn't even match up with the prototype that we've all seen. One which doesn't have the useless intake before the rear wheels (always a dumb feature of Mustangs) but does have the exhaust behind the front wheels (of little value given the structure behind it). And the scoop on the hood is in the wrong place.
No research, no insider information, nothing new - and the only purpose is to sell their rag.
As for "Shelby", if the new wheteveritis carries the name, it's purely for marketing purposes. Shelby had nothing to do with this car, his company only collects a fat licensing fee, and when he was alive he had zero input or contribution to the GT500 other than collecting his money. The car should be named after something that means something.
I agree that they had nothing to do with the gt500 other than licensing and getting a fat check...however, saying that the Shelby name on this car doesn't mean anything I find a little harsh. Just because Shelby didn't personally have a hand in it doesn't mean it is without meaning. The name means something. The name means history, what once was and harkens back to the original. If we throw out the names and forget about the past we just have a new car that doesn't tell a story, no one will care who Shelby was or what he contributed to the mustang. The name has a historical significance to the mustang as a whole whether he physically helped with it or not...just my opinion an 2 cents of course. You can't take the heritage away from the car and the name is part of that heritage.
Perhaps so. It meant something in 1964 and 1965... the racing record was good, but the build quality wasn't. Soon after it was purely a Ford show. But more recently he sued the Shelby Club, whose members (I was a member) were dedicated to him, and then he failed to submit the charity money he collected. After all the ego stuff... enough is enough.
