I just bought the wife a new car. We shopped BMW, Audi, Mercedes.... We ended up with a LEXUS GS350 as everyone we talked to who had owned German experienced more issues with repair than is reasonable.

I have mad love for the M3 & M4, but it would piss me off to no end to have a 75k car and to have little issues come up all of the time. Both my 05 and 11 mustangs have been quite reliable, with the exception of an complete AC fail on the 11 right after it came off of warrantee. I would feel absolutely safe buying another Mustang, even one with new technology like the voodoo motor. I would live in constant fear in an, "M"

Ultimately I expect superior performance, superior reliability, superior resale value and a wacky SUPERIOR EXHAUST NOTE! Yes I will have inferior interior bits and luxuries... C'est la vie!

If I turn out to be wrong, I will be wrong at 8250 rpms.
I hope you're not wrong! I plan on taking my GT350 to 100k+ miles!

Either that or, STFU about it being an affordable performance car.

Yea for sure. I'm a little salty about the topic because 2 times, my self and emu old man went into our local dealer and wanted to buy 1 Shelby gt500 and the other one later on was the gt500KR and each time the dealer posted up a secondary sticker on the window that said "fair market value" and it was 15k over sticker on the KR and 7 over on the regular gt500.... So there they sat for what seemed like forever,

Then some idiot actually paid the overage price... Now if you look at a regular gt500, you would never get that money back that was dumped into a car for "fair market value" it's like they are setting you up to have major depreciation on your car before you even bought it...

Man it grinds my gears, I turned the other cheek and bought a Lexus lol

I agree with him too. When I sold my 2009 to get a 2015 it had 55,000-60,000 miles on it and never was in the shop once. Literally nothing ever went wrong with that car (outside replacing wear items like needing tires, oil and pads/rotors once obviously).

I was very happy with Ford that in 5.5 years the car never needed any work beyond replacing wear items and never went back to the dealership or was in the shop for even an hour.

There's only 1 non-metallic color that doesnt cost $550/1950 upgrade- white. Every other color paint costs (IMO) a ton.

Sure you can get a bare bare bones white with cloth M3 for $64k, also losing 100hp and 20 ft lbs; and some turbo lag to deal with no matter how much BMW reduced it.

The GT350 is a better performance car any day.
I wouldn't be so quick to make that claim. Especially since there hasn't been a single GT350 tested yet.

First off, everyone knows M3's make well over the claimed 425 hp. They unsually dyno 420-430 rwhp stock, so they are making around 480-500 bhp from the factory. Same story with torque. Also, a 6MT M3/4 will certainly weigh less than the GT350. The 6MTs come in around 3500lbs with the DCTs around 3600lbs. So most likely around 200lbs less weight (6MT), similar power, and (in reality) way more torque over a wider RPM range and all of a sudden the M3/4 seems very competitive with a GT350 in terms of outright performance.

Call me a fanboy all you like but these are facts.

Don't be so sure about the weight thing. It's quite possible the GT350 comes out weighing less than most of us think. Former Stig, Ben Collins, who drove it up Goodwin says it's very light, and since he's been video'ed driving the current 2015 GT I'm sure he's comparing the two. I think it's quite possible the GT350R comes in at less than 3500 lbs.

If the mighty M3/4 were such bad boys, then wonder why Ford used a Ferrari as a benchmark. The 350 don't care about that M3/4... That's a small biz ride.

As for strength on track and power...
Nurburgring times for each:
M4 7.52 (slower than E46),
Z/28 7.37,
GT350 7.32 (rumored).

Now what was that? Those are facts... And if you want to argue that the 350's time is just rumor, the the Z/28 killed the M4 on the Gring, still.

1) Yes the GT350R time is completely false. The car was never timed around the ring before the lap time ban (Ford has said this repeatedly).

2) The only reason Ford benchmarked a Ferrari California is because it was the only front engined Flat plane V8 on the market. The used it for NVH benchmarking and no other reason.

3) The Z28 time is on semi-slick 305 section Trofeo R tires (and racing spec multimatic dampers) so I'm not sure why you feel the need to compare it to the M4 time. Remove the fancy tires and shocks and I'm not even sure if the Z28 can break 8 minutes.

Again lets stick to the facts here.

Lol. You sound angry. The fact that the M4 is slower than the E46 says enough.

Haha nah man. But it's like everyone (or most people) on this forum hate on the M3/4 for whatever reason. Maybe everyone is upset that a normal GT can no longer out run it? On the F80 forum people show nothing but respect and excitement for the GT350 but that is not the case here for the F80. Whatever. Don't really care.

And you forgot to mention that the M4 is slower than an E46 M3 CSL (stripped out, semi-slicks, etc). Not a normal E46 M3. :headbonk:

You don’t want to know
And now the BMW guys are starting to speculate on the M2 vs. the GT350, which may be a better overall comparison.

Lol, yes I did. Thanks for the good debate. Will be nice to see what the 350 laps actually were.

I'm not hating on BMW, as I find them to be very good autos... I'm more of an Audi fan myself, but at any rate, I think both cars are excellent sportscar options.

I don't hate the M3/4, it's just really not my cup of tea. I've grown to like mean V8 go fast car without too many frills, so the GT350 (and the coyote beforehand) fits the bill perfect.

Price wise, yes that is a better comparison. But even as a huge BMW fan myself, I don't think the M2 stands a chance against the GT350 in terms of outright performance.
